Stabilizer Help
« on: Thu, 22 September 2016, 20:18:18 »
Hi GH, I'll get right to the point.  I was switching keycaps today on a board that has clear MX stabilizers installed.  While I was removing the space bar I noticed it was stuck on one of the stabilizers so I started to slowly wiggle it out.  While I was doing this I some how managed to pop the stabilizer stem out of the soldered stabilizer  :-[ Is there an easy way to fix this?  Do I just try to force the stem back into the stabilizer?

Thanks in advance!

Im definitely certain that stabilizers aren't soldered in. pop the clips on the bottom of the board and wiggle it out from the plate. Or just remove it if youre not using a plate.

Oh, my bad, forgive the n00bness, I just assumed they were soldered in like the switches.  So I have a plate and all I would have to do is take the board apart, then pop the stabilizer, put the stem back in and then pop it back again?

Great!  Thanks so much.  The board is currently at work so I probably won't get to give it a try until tomorrow but I will keep this thread posted!

if you can open up your keyboard, you can insert toothpicks or any thing between those stabilizer inserts to prevent them from getting removed every time you change/clean your keycaps/keyboard

Hi, could you clarify/show a picture of what you mean by this?  I don't have access to the board right now but from what I remember, I'm not sure how I would be able to put something in the stabilizer. Thanks!

Underneath the pcb, the stabilizers are held in by those things I encircled, sometimes they are uprooted by the force you apply when you remove keycaps. to prevent that from happening, insert something in the middle (i.e . toothpicks)  :thumb:

So update, took the board apart, and am trying to pop the stabilizer but I can't seem to do it, its getting stuck right at the top of the PCB.  Any one have any tips?  Perhaps I'm not apply enough force as I'm deathly afraid of destroying the stabilizer or damaging the PCB...

Thanks again!

Dont put something in between before putting it back in.

It should be easy to put them on rathe than removing them.
