VP's debate: Both running mates added to Clinton's.

Mike separates himself from Trump and made a point to be a viable candidate for the future. Tim rebuked on a long list of Trump's mistakes. In the aftermath, both performances benefited Clinton's position.

I didn't get a chance to watch it. Did it meet expectations? If so, what were the expectations?

This debate was much more tame than the presidential one last week. I think Kaine's performance was on par with Clinton, but Pence did much better than Trump. His pollish helped and he spent much less time being defensive.

Of course, the idea of who wins is subjective.

I've come to view humanity as predominantly monkey business.

Pence did much better than Trump.

Naturally, he used to be a right-wing AM radio talk show host. He felt comfortable ignoring questions and talking staying off-topic.

Trump is a TV entertainer who has no experience facing challenges.
“No political truth is of greater intrinsic value, or is stamped with the authority of more enlightened patrons of liberty: The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands .… may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny.” —James Madison, Federalist 47
“All the powers of government, legislative, executive, and judiciary, result to the legislative body. The concentrating of these in the same hands, is precisely the definition of despotic government. An ELECTIVE DESPOTISM was not the government we fought for; but one .... in which the powers of government should be so divided and balanced among several bodies of magistracy, as that no one could transcend their legal limits, without being effectually checked and restrained by the others.” — Thomas Jefferson, commentary on Federalist 48

Public speaking experience comes handy at times.
