or maybe he didn't get too many in stock? lol I don't find it too surprising. Honestly, I think the HHKB Pro 2 is getting more and more popular. There's probably some hype or something. But no doubt, with the purple WASD keys and red ESC key, that thing looks sexy.

Knowing Steve Jobs, you'd almost think that they deliberately used yellow-prone plastic to force you to buy new stuff every few years....

Truth is, the good folks at Alps Electric had some pretty poor taste in plastic.

Good point. Probably made of the some stuff, as the yellowing on the components tends to match.

btw, ding ding ding! good oneness with cup rubber... all evening I was like "hmm, why does it feel so differently comfortable" I think what day it is, and it's exactly 1 month after I got it, seriously

I was probably one of the most skeptical about this break-in period and good feeling of oneness with cup rubber, but i'm forced to agree.

It's either the new Topre switches that have to break-in or just muscle memory that needs to adapt from someone that used buckling springs switches for a while prior to Topre switches.

I think it is a combination of both. I took me about a month to really get it as well and like you I came off a BS board. Ever since then my poor model M's have just been gathering dust except for the ones I sold off that is. I still like BS boards but for all day typing I much prefer the Topre boards.

I think the HHKB Pro looks better with printed keys, and the fact that I use mine mainly for rewrites and edits to long works of prose, a blank keyboard just doesn't work that well for me.

I may be alone here, but I think the blank version is best as is w/o the novelty keycaps.  I have the red escape key for my hhkb2 but don't use it because it's a little "ooh, look at me, I'm different".  You don't see the the most expensive and classy cars with red rear view mirrors mounted on the windshield or purple AC controls on the dash.  I honestly think the Japanese designer of the hhkb2 has more insight into what would look best aesthetically.  Don't get me wrong, I think the red escape key is cool and purple WASD keys are something I plan to get (I'll keep them with my red esc key that I keep in the HHKB box), but I think it looks it's absolute best as is w/o colored keys.

I personally chose the white version as it was two toned, and would show keycap wear less than a black kb would.  As for yellowing, when mine does, I won't mind so much.  Most classic looking computer hardware has yellowed over the years, and I expect mine to age well, as well.  I care more about texture consistency, scratches, dents, scraps, etc.

If there was a set of double shot keys made for the HHKB, that'd be nice, but I really don't like the inconsistency of some keys having print on the side, and others don't.

For anybody interested in making a purchase of the HHKB, go for it. It was my first mechanical keyboard purchase, loved it, and haven't really felt the need to try any of the other modern offerings.

I tried blank for awhile, and I think it really helped me with my touch typing.  I am a lot better than I used to be.  Like you, I do too much "specialty" work that I really need to have the legends to stay sane.
