Does anyone use opera?
« on: Sun, 23 October 2016, 18:44:43 »
I saw this in an old necro form and did not want to dig it up so I have to ask- does anyone use opera on their phone or PC? I use opera mini on my old gs4 (and the thing eyenkos soc is like a snapdragon 600 and 2 gigs of ram is weak too) and it provides all the features I like. Here's the necro btw- https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=4460.msg63995#msg63995

I used to use it as my main browser probably around when that original thread was made, but then found Firefox (I think).

When I came back to Opera after a few years it was not how I remembered it.  The worst change was the tab switching order - it seemed random.

Chrome and Firefox switch tabs as I'd expect, and I find myself unable to use any other browser that doesn't switch tabs in the same way.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I still use Opera browser (Opera mini to be exact) on my Symbian phone (Nokia Pureview 808 with 'Belle SP2', a megapixel beast with 41 megapixel and shoot photos and videos quicker with very easy-to-reach configurations than most of the modern smartphones I played with).
Be frank the design of Opera mini has all the basic features offered in a very handy way with human-factor considerations.

On Linux & Windows: Firefox, because it offers syncing and many extensions.
On iOS of iPad: switching between Opera Coast, and Safari, and still wanting to try Firefox, but I'm super used to the previous 2.
On my Windows Phone 8.1: I'm never used to any of the browsers on WP8.1, be it Opera mini, UCBrowser, Internet Explorer (and perhaps it's not in such a one-hand thumb-operable style like those older pocketable phones like my Nokia 808 or the current iPhone 7)

Don't use it but have thought about it quite a bit due to its native VPN offering.

Opera mini sometimes if I'm on a device that supports it but for desktop I can't get away from Chrome/FF, Opera is just too little share to be of mind for web dev. It also just never got keyboard shortcuts right and I always fell back to Chrome/FF.
