Topre 23UB: What's a decent price?
« on: Sun, 30 October 2016, 16:03:52 »
I've come to the conclusion that the only way to make my NovaTouch usable (for me) is to add a Topre 23UB external numpad. Now, I'm not saying I am actually planning to do so, just that if I ever want to actually use the NT on a regular basis, I'd have to get one. So what is considered a decent price for one? I see that a Japanese vendor is selling them for about $115 through Amazon, but I don't know if that's considered good or bad by the Topre fanbase.

Well here they are on EK

109 dollars and EK does local pickups if you call or email them (they are located in Los Alamitos)

That's about right. If that's with free shipping, then they've got Elite Keyboards beat. EK wants $109 + shipping.

Yeah they're usually like $110 and I don't see them on classifieds that often.

I've had a 23U for a few years now. I went through several others before getting the 23U and nothing even comes close, which is why you don't see them in the classifieds. It'll be the last numpad you'll buy.

Wasn't all that long ago, before the new batch arrived, someone was offering wads of cash and a couple of rare Clacks for one.

I spent weeks searching, to no avail :))
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
