Kinesis Advantage: Fixing a Broken RJ11
« on: Fri, 04 November 2016, 08:01:15 »
Hi guys, I've just discovered that the "tongue" from the rj11 connector on my Advantage has been snapped off.  I have zero experience in repairing cables but I would like to give a try as it seems simple enough.

Questions?
-What tools are required
-Tips
-Would these connectors be suitable?

RJ11 is a standard size/type so that one will be fine.  You could pick one up at your local maplin for less money if you don't need 50 :))

The fun part is to attatch the connector you need a crimping tool - see 'customers also bought' in your link.

Once you have the tool you just lay the wires out in the same order as in the existing cable, cut them to the same length and slide them in to the connector then squeeze - easy!

Thanks for your help SO, very much appreciated, I'll definitely check out Maplin, ones just around the corner from me, you're right 49 spares would be a tad overkill :))
