Rosewill RK-9000 vs Filco Majestouch 2?
« on: Wed, 07 December 2016, 17:07:07 »
Any user who owns (or have tried) both models can say how they compare in terms of build quality, materials and typing experience?

I'm satisfied with both boards, although I don't use my Rosewill much anymore. They pretty much feel the same, but I think the quality might be "better" with Filco (not very noticeable).

I have a Filco MJ2 TKL mx-reds and a Rosewill RK9000 also with reds..  honestly the experience is about the same with both boards...  however there is a catch with the rosewill (besides the god awful logo... at least it is black now mine has the giant white logo...=\)  the usb connector on the rosewill's seem to be the weak link...

I used my rosewill for about a year (just leaving it plugged in on my desk... not moving it much) and the connector on mine was fine...   I got my rosewill on a crazy sale on newegg for $25 (combo with refurb celeron D for some reason..very odd).. but even with current pricing if you want a full sized board the Rosewill is pretty compelling ... I think the filco is probably the better board but looking at newegg the MX-Red v2 is $70 which is ~1/2 the price of the filco...   the keycaps on the filco are crap also... the rosewill caps are at least laser printed.. really Filco pad printing??? come on bros.

I immediately changed key caps on my Filco to Vortex PBT double shots...

baring a USB connector failure ..the rosewill is really close in terms of use to the filco I'd say.

I've read they have made the connector stronger with the new model (the one with the dark grey logo). Anyway, I suppose you can also use some tape or some clips to prevent the cable from moving.

The point is that the Rosewill is much much cheaper, and considering the Filco is amazing and the The Rosewill is a clone, then the Rosewill could be considered to be one of the best mechanical keyboards as regard quality/price.

I'm not sure if I will buy the Filco or the Rosewill. I don't want to feel like a fool for paying more for something that is the same with a different brand.

As regards keycaps, I'll change them as soon as a get my keyboard with pbt keycaps, no matter what model I choose.

the look / feel of the keys is pretty similar... but the Filco isn't exactly the same under the hood,  Costar builds both keyboards..but they build them to each companies specifications.    There are some teardowns out there on the web showing the similarities and differences.    The Filco does have the superior build quality.... whether it merits the price premium is another question certainly.

whatever you pick make sure it has costar stabilizers  :)  no seriously cherry stabilizers are kind of the devil...

oh wait... since you say you are ditching the stock key caps either way... what about the WASD V2 barebones key board..  (basically the V2 w/out key caps for ~$100

Another opcion I'm considering is the CM Storm Quickfire XT, which seems to be another rebranded Filco. I can get it for 90€ aprox., while the Filco would cost more than 160€. I don't know if I should save money with these rebranded keyboards and invest the rest in good keycaps, which aren't cheap. Or maybe, if I get tired of trying to make a decision and of looking for keycaps, I may end up buing a Unicomp.

I have the 9000v2 with brown switch. I have not had any problems with the micro USB falling out as I use it for the office and no gaming. I have noticed some hiccups with the PS2 so I just stick with the USB cable. I'm just grateful the keyboard doesn't wobble (uneven feet) like my other keyboard. :)
