My experience with a Razer BlackWidow.
« on: Sun, 25 December 2016, 17:48:09 »
Hey there.

As pretty much every keyboard enthusiast knows, Razer is probably the monoply of gaming keyboards. I recently acquired a 2016 model of a BlackWidow and was initially very happy. But I was quickly saddened by this keyboard. I will showcase the pros and (MANY) cons of this keyboards as well as the switches.

PROS:
Decently well-built, better than any Cherry-made keyboard, that is for sure.
The switches, Razer Greens / Kalih Blues are slightly less scratchy, more tactile and have a slightly higher actuation point.
It's BACKLIT.
Backlighting equals NKRO.  ;D
USB 2.0 and headphone passthrough.

CONS:
The backlighting is natively only in green and is not very friendly to the eyes.
To change the backlighting, Syanpse software is the only option. FUUUUUUUU-
The keycaps are thin and kinda creak under pressure.
Confusing Macro function. Howdoieven...
Price. $110?! They are cheap CLONES and while backlighting is a bit $$$, it's really uncalled. If it is authentic MX, then I would understand. But c'mon...
Even with the increased tactility and less scratchiness, the switches are still pretty crap.
The switches are too annoying for me. I'm a sucker for a clicky switches, but when these switches give me a headache, that's saying something.
The switches are also a bit too light for me. I know they are meant to be light, but I think BS (both MBS and CBS) and the entire Clicky Alps line are my sweet spot.

All-in-all, this keyboard is basically what a straw package label says, "Neon," and "Flex." I will be returning this keyboard (I kept everything in decent condition,) and using the money for a proper clicky keyboard; The Model M.
Thanks for reading this review. Have a nice day~!
