Hi! I've lurked here off and on for a while, and figured I should just create an account.
I'm a software developer who types in Dvorak, so right off the bat, I'm a bit of an oddball. I switched to Dvorak a number of years ago due to RSI, and subsequently, I can touch-type in Dvorak as well as sight-type in Qwerty (never learned to properly touch-type before the switch).
My first non-standard keyboard was a
TypeMatrix 2030. I got it soon after the layout switch. It is a decent enough board for the price, and the hardware Dvorak mode was important for me as I transitioned from Qwerty (this was before
Karabiner was a thing).
When I started my current job, I decided to treat myself to my first mechanical, a
WASD CODE keyboard with MX Browns. I love this keyboard, and it's suited me extremely well. Ever since, I've been soaking up knowledge from the community (here, as well as at /r/mk) about other types of boards, switches, caps, and platforms.
It all came to a head a couple of weeks ago, when I found a decent price on a
used Ergodox Infinity with MX Browns and DSA Granite caps, and snagged it. Programming the layers on it has been extremely eye-opening. It didn't take too long to get used to typing on it.
Getting the Ergodox must have triggered something, because I promptly spent the rest of my Christmas money on a fully assembled
MiniVan w/ 65g Zealios / DSA vomit. Still working out the layers, but the 40% layout seems like it will work out pretty well for me for day-to-day use. I've also learned I enjoy typing on 65g switches more than MX Browns.
Finally, just yesterday, I ordered parts to build a Planck (also w/ 65g / DSA). I'm terribly excited to assemble my very first board next month. Of course, I've been a fan of ortholinear layout ever since the TypeMatrix... and so we have come full circle with my brief autobiography, and I'll leave it there.
If anyone is in the Philly area, I'm always up for a meetup. Happy to show off my small collection, and of course eager to check out other people's setups as I continue to learn about and get into the hobby.
