Massdrops' latest Topre PBT spacebars (faulty?)
« on: Sat, 11 February 2017, 04:58:39 »
Hi,

I got my Topre PBT spacebars from Massdrop yesterday and it looks like they don't fit my HHKB.
I made a video about it, what do you think?

Am I doing something wrong or are they faulty?
Faulty spacebars would be a nightmare for me because I payed shipping to Germany + import taxes, totaling at 40€ for (hopefully not) plastic crap ...
Not to mention, that I've never seen Massdrop answering any support requests whatsoever.

I never heard of it being not fit in the hhkb but I do received some and the spacebar makes the spacebar feel not good at all.

There's a discussion on the quality over massdrop discussions page. Do check it out

They always answer mine.  In fact, I just got two keys that were missing from the lightcycle and overcast buys.  Submit a ticket.  It might take a while depending on volume when you submit it, but they've always gotten back to me.

It's warped. Had a similar problem with my gateron PBT set.

Put it under a heavy pot and blow a hairdryer at it for a minute or two.

If that doesn't fix it bother massdrop.

They're just warped...

I bought from the original buy and ALL of mine were warped..some of them so bad they wouldn't come up like the one in the video and others less so..

Just take a hairdryer to them and a heavy book or something like that...pretty easy to do...

And before you complain...this was a known issue and expected really...although I'm surprised you don't hear more about it...

I have a blue one here (AFAIK Chinese, works perfect) that you can have for domestic shipping in a bubble mailer, so like 2,60 or something around that

I did the hairdryer fix to one spacebar. It didn't help. I was getting a bit angry and installed it with brute force and suddenly it worked.
It seems like the stem of the Massdrop spacebars are thicker , so you have to push that thing on like you want to kill somebody to make it work.
Quite dissappointed about the fitment. I wonder why nobody is complaining about this.

I have one white pbt bar from the second round that I have a lot of issues with as well, very similar to your video. I just use the stock abs ones currently (even though other bars from r2 are ok and I have some from r1)

I was just about to recommend trying more force, though I never needed really excessive force, just a bit more than usual.

It helps..Yes it needs more force to fit in the stabilizer but that isn't what is causing it to get stuck like in the video...You apply heat and let it cool with some force to straighten it and it most definitely fixes the problem...
