Yeah, there are different design goals and aesthetics between color scheme for keyboards and color scheme for IDE/source code editors. OP wants to adapt the most popular version of the latter to the former. People are divided between those who wants general aesthetics of a keyboard, and those who want to follow the spirit of the original color scheme. Same thing happens to keysets following similar pattern, like Oblivion. But unlike Oblivion, we can't afford to have 2 dozens of child kits. So, I guess it is up to the OP which direction he wants to take. But if we are deviating from the original intent of Solarized, we should use another name, and let others who want to strictly follow Solarized guidelines use them.
IIRC the original Penumbra was also called 'Solarized'. We have come a long way since 4 years ago. Now we can use custom color with Pantone matching. So, I'm kinda hoping this can be the new Solarized set with better colors than Penumbra.
