Ebay loves to see anything that "generates excitement" because they feel that it makes buyers emotional and engaged.
Ebay does not give a damn about sellers, but they do throw sellers a bone on this one because once the bidding starts it can end up well over the BIN price.
Personally, I use "Fixed Price" when I want to sell something quickly - along with a reasonable price point.
An auction with a BIN option can be hijacked and forced to run for the full time period, for better or worse. Setting a BIN price close to the bid start is pointless, and starting a bid well below the BIN price can be problematic, too.
One way that a seller can use this in his favor is to run his normal auction with a fair and reasonable start bid, but put a sky-high BIN option on it and hope that somebody comes along who is desperate to get the item at any price.
