The Zalman 5.1 are steaming turds. I hope the Logitech cans are what you want.
I trolled Geekhack and all I got was an eponymous SPOS.

they've had overall good reviews so far. i hope they can at least match my Tritton headset that I had and somehow magically lost. ;_;

there's a 'no questions asked 30 day money back guarantee' if all else fails.

**edit: what do you mean by "steaming turds" and "cans" ?

Steaming turds = They weren't even good for mp3.

The Zalmans'
  • wiring was incorrect from the factory for 5.1, at least mine and my friends'. Center and Sub should be equal on both ears; they were center left sub right.
  • frequency response was dismal. Generously I'd say 100Hz (without the one-ear subwoofer) to 12,500-13K. By 16-17K, they were distorted enough to be unpleasant at best. There was a bass peak around +3dB at 120 Hz to let that good old kick drum mask their complete lack of a low end.
  • wearing comfort was bad. They were loose and too long front-back to seal around the ear properly.
  • separation was nearly non-existent. Example: Somehow a mono signal from left was audible in the right ear. No kidding. Maybe they ghosted the 5.1 signal....
  • imaging was muddy front-back
I'm sure there was more but I've blocked it out. I got them on sale for $30 and felt ripped off.

Cans = an old radio term for headphones.

well... I'm no audiophile so maybe I'll be happy with them. the main things i need are a good bass, a fair microphone and clear audio (even military audio would work) and I'm good. being comfortable is an absolute bonus.

Flat is good. Sennheiser 'phones have my blessing as a brand.

My Koss Pro4AA are flatter, though. A laser beam has more peaks and valleys.

Sennheiser PC350.  I'm a Sennheiser fanboy of that flatter response curve though so YMMV.

OMG Ripster am I following you like a mindless lego zombie or what?

I got a PC350 about a year ago, I like it a lot.  I am not an audiophile at all, but the sound is good for gaming, the microphone is great.  I have tried many microphones for work (I use dragon naturally speaking to dictate stuff) and the PC350 has been the best microphone I could find for my purposes.

i got the Logitech G35 in today and i've already played L4D2! now... L4D2 is no L4D because L4D2 doesn't really do echo-location very well imho (oh, i hear a boomer, TO THE LEFT! -wastes a clip-). I also played FFIX on an emulator (i know, shame on me... (but i bought the game just to support)) and the sound was amazing.

If you haven't seen the movie, it's Airplane.  That is just one of MANY scenes in that movie that will have you rolling.
