Unpopular opinion?
« on: Sat, 05 August 2017, 09:12:28 »
Perhaps I experinced these in the wrong order, but I have been using zealios switches for a few months now, and decided to give topre a go... and although it feels superior to any actual cherry mx switch, I feel like the zealios switch pulled off the feel topre was going for, only better. I know this will be an unpopular opinion, but I am not quite sure I understand the appeal.

Personally I would class the zealios switch and the topre switch into the same key feel category, as they are so similar, the difference being in 'satisfaction' factor, and perhaps the post tactility key weight, which drops steeply on the topre after the dome buckle. Also, the topre switch feels sluggish to rebound. I suppose this is totally subjective.

Am I alone here or does anyone else feel that way? I should point out my zealios switches came pre-lubed.

You didn't specify but, which weight Topre domes were you typing on and which weight of Zealios do you have? Also, which profile keycaps are you using on each board? Definitely factors into the feel.

My only Topre board for now (Hypersphere-silenced NT) versus my Zealios (67g on a WF) are both enjoyable to type on, though I'd say that I'd give the edge to my NT for the overall more 'polished' feel to the typing experience. And the upstroke feel is lovely with the silencing rings (and feels plenty snappy). I'd really like to try out heavier domes on it, as I think I'd like that even more.

That said, my comments above aren't a strictly apples-to-apples comparison. That NT is modded, versus unmodded Zealios (which I still love). Maybe my opinion will change and it'll be a fairer comparison once I get silencing clips on my Zealios.

All in all, I like them both  :) And (just my opinion, of course) I don't necessarily consider one to be superior to the other. They're just different typing experiences, with small overlaps.

Unsilenced 55g Topre realforce 87u vs 67g zealios. The zealios keyboard is a custom job, but its a 60% in an aluminum case.
