Recommend me a full size blue

I ordered a Scorpius M10 last week, got it in, and the POS had abou 15 dead keys on it.  Just got a RMA number and sending it back to the hell it came from (ergogeek).

I'm looking to pull the trigger on a good cherry blue board, and want to get it ordered asap.

I want full size, and I hear everybody rave about the Filco's.  I know that some versions have issues, so that is why I am asking an opinion before I throw that much money down on a keyboard.  

Also, two other questions.  I hear that using something like a ripper pad will quieten down the noise of the blues?  and what is Elite's turnaround time on order usually?

I don't think there's any issues with the Cherry Filcos, should be good to go.

You don't have to worry about the Majestouch (Cherry-based) series.  The Zeros (Fukka, ALPS-compatible) have a slower scan rate for debouncing purposes, which could cause some transposition errors for very fast typists (and short bursts).

Only problem with the Filcos is you get shiny keys.

Also consider the Das Professional S, they've worked out the transposition bug.

If you want quiet, cherry browns are better.   The blues click pretty loudly.    I'm not sure which I prefer?   The people around me get annoyed when I type of the blue switches.

Blues are too plasticky for me, but (as always) YMMV.  I like the clicks from ALPS and BS better.

Not sure what problem there really isn't many problems with the Filco line. Except for a few sticky cherry switches which require a few hard taps and a few rare cases here and there that EKB's(Brian) has mentioned. I think you might be mistaking the DAS issue with the Filco. Although the Filco along with the Das and many other mechanical keyboards are 3rd party manufactured by Costar. Diatec not only put in their own controller but they also have an additional quality control layer. Which is why you don't see as many problems as say as Das or Steelseries, who've had some quality control issues mentioned by a few people.

Either way your not really specific on what your using the keyboard for. Pure typing, gaming, etc.etc.

But like others have said don't worry about the majestouch. Like Manyak put it on his mechanical keyboard guide at OCN. Even though the 50-60 dollar mechanical keyboards look the same, have the same switches, and are pretty similar. There is a big difference in quality from the lower-end boards to the higher-end boards.

I think it's a bit unnecessary, the noise is not THAT extreme. If it's bothering other people or if you feel annoyed by it, which I doubt. Then it's really not a problem. Unless either it's the noise factor or your mouse sensitivity is 1 meter. Though if you are considering here are a few reviews.

They stopped carrying the Fukka switch, unless you buy it off someone else.

Ah, a fellow Ergogeek customer. Mine only had 6 dead keys, so I guess I gots me a fancy one. Normally I'd say it isn't the retailers fault, but mine was obviously used (wasn't supposed to be). They're sending me another (as of yesterday). If it works I'll be happy with it for now, and start saving for a topre.

Best of luck getting something that makes ya happy.

Is there a particular alps switch type/board you recommend? I'm curious about them. I have a Dell AT101 on the way, as well as an SGI (made sure it was the right model) that I impulse bought, which I think also has alps, but other than that I don't what's good in the alps genre.

I had a couple of the Dells (non-clicky, complicated ALPS), and they were pretty good for what you pay for them, but they are pretty mediocre overall. My favorite ALPS 'board was the Northgate Evolution (clicky, complicated ALPS), but that was mainly due to the build quality more than the switches. The popular opinion here is that the clicky, complicated ALPS in the Northgates, et. al. are the best, then everything else. The "fakes" (Fukka, Strongman, etc.) are based on one of the simplified designs, and are generally regarded as inferior. I, personally, don't really care for ALPS as I find that they rattle a lot and are cheap-sounding, but YMMV.  The SGI seems like it would be pretty nice as the sliders in that 'board have rubber dampers that reduce the noise quite a bit, and they soften the landing a little.

Thanks guys!  I may end up getting browns.  My fiancé' sits...like 4 feet away from me on the other side of my desk.  She heard the blues, didn't complain much but wasn't exposed to them for very long

I don't game, at least on this pc.  I have a HTPC for that  This is mostly basic use and typing.

I didn't mean to imply the Filco's had probs, just the manufacturers in general.  I had heard some things about the Das pro S I think, and that is where that came from.

Anybody comment on how fast Elite are with their orders?  Or does anybody have any offers they want to PM me with?  I don't have access to the classifieds yet

Small sample size, but I ordered 2 from Cyberguys (one for myself, one for a former co-worker). Mine is flawless, and no complaints from co-worker.

It's probably not that simple, though.

I'm torn on a blue or brown Filco/Das, but if anybody has any they want to get rid of, hit me up!  If not I guess I'll be making a Elite order soon.

I went at home from a Scorpius M10 to a Filco 104-key with Cherry Blues, and it's a WORLD of difference.  Only problems I had were a couple of sticky keys that went away with use.

After using one of the "Ricercar SPOS" boards daily at work for the past couple of weeks, I've decided to order a Filco w/Browns in the next couple of weeks for my desk at the office.

The Ricecar spos is the best feeling brown cherry board out there.  You actually may note a difference in feel from the Ricecar spos from a filco cherry brown, as they bottom out in a very different way.   I really like the Ricecar SPOS, use it at work daily, and I love it.  I've had the cherry brown filco before although I passed that along to another geekhacker.
