Gee.  I thought that this was a friendly place.  Not so.  You try to help someone out and you get crucified for it.  So I could have expressed it better in my post, sorry.  So much for tolerance.  I guess it was the way they were raised.  Look down on others as you are always right.

I believe everyone misunderstood what you said.  I think you meant that a person living in the US should not bid on the item since the seller will not ship to the US.  That said, I think that everyone thought you meant something along the lines of people (living anywhere) should not bid on the item since the seller will not ship to the US; as if in protest.  It seems like a misunderstanding.

People here are generally nice; just not me.  You've been warned.

I tried to resist but eventually made a bid, then resisted more bids by locking myself in the broom cupboard until end of listing. I too am seeking something which is not in my possession, maybe a MX 1800 Blues.
Often outspoken, please forgive any cause for offense.

Not much justice for the seller.
He would have gotten a better price if he would had shipped to EUROPE ONLY.

He would have, but he opted for local shipping. Smaller risk, smaller effort, smaller profit.

Hi All - I was the winner of the keyboard, and having lusted over the majestouch for ages was thrilled to get it for such a low cost.

It turned up today - the build quality is fantastic - truly lovely keyboard. I can see why u all rave about them.

The big kick in the knackers though is the fact that the key switches are linear blacks and not browns as in the auction.

I don't think ill bother returning it though - its still a steal.

Dont suppose anyone wants to swap it for a majestouch with mx browns?

Cheers

Welcome to Geekhack!
Have you actually pulled a key to confirm it has blacks? Browns feel rather linear too. If it's not a FKBN87M/EB as advertised, you should return it. That would be plain fraud. And you can't really type on blacks...

Blacks aint too bad.  At least if you don't type that much on it it isn't that bad.  Well, if you don't type too much, and you are previously used to rubber dome boards then it isn't that bad.

Or if you game a lot it's worth it.

Actually if you look at the listing the pic is of a Filco box for Cherry Blacks.

I'll take your word for it, it isn't obvious to me.
Still, it's a good price for a great keyboard. Kickass for gaming and just fine for most PC users who aren't writing novels.

Is it definitely the n-key rollover version? If not I would send it back or ask for a tenner off the price.

I dont think there's a non-NKRO version of the 87-key available.

There's a simple way to solve this question - two screwdrivers... one under each side of a key, and up...

Report the seller. Does the box say that they have brown switches? If so, I'd say that he advertised it as being a different part number to what it actually was.

Im tempted to keep it. Do you guys think theres enough differnece between black/brown to warrant sending it back....and probably paying double to get a brown?

There's quite a big difference between black and brown switches, especially in terms of resistance.

Yes. The description was inaccurate.

Has to be your choice. Browns are definitely nicer to type on. I just did a side-by-side comparison. The difference in force may be small, but even after a few seconds the black switches start to feel like you have to work to type. Also they make a resonating springy sound on the board I used (Cherry MX11900.) The brown switches in my Compaq MX11800 (which is a largely identical board) do not make the springy sound.

Black switches are not bad by any means. They just aren't as effortless as the browns.

I wouldn't worry much about the lack of tactile feedback. The deciding factor should be do you find the black keys too heavy.

Blacks are excellent switches, but they're not for touch typing. If that's what you do most of the time, get rid of it.

The folks over at the OCN seem to really like the Cherry Blacks.  Decks and the Steelseries for example.  I guess I have really weak fingers.   Or maybe my muscles are atrophied from years of rubber dome typing.  I can't stand typing on the Cherry Blacks.

Unlikely to happen. Blues and browns are sought after, blacks are not. That's why I suspect the false description was not a mistake.

my deck blacks are wonderful for gaming, i have no issues with typing on it for short periods, imho its a switch in its own league.
black and browns are 2 totally different switches to type on imho, but then again i cant fully touch type yet,
i usually bottom-out on my browns, blacks give way more resistance...

Hi all - ive been testing this today.

Sure to bottom out the keys does take quite considerable effort - but im finding im getting used lightly pressing the keys to actuate the switch, which doesnt take that much force.

I guess by the end of the day I'll know if its right for me!

Thanks for all your input so far.....my wife thinks my keyboard facination is mental, i've now told her Ive found a forum full of us! :-)

It only takes 60g. to activate the switch, so it's roughly on par with a Model M as far as activation force.  That said, it gets pretty stiff shortly thereafter, and to me, it feels a little spongy.
