Just make a shopping weekend trip out of it, 800 km isn't too far. And from the looks of it, it's a pretty flat route (i.e. no mountain passes).

Driving through the rockies so many times, that's not really all that far.
That's like Prince Rupert to Prince George (first city larger than 20 000 on the route to Edmonton) [~730 km through the Rockies].

My advice though, don't go to Prince George, it's the ass hole of BC. Prince Rupert is nice, but its always raining.
