Logitech G19 (overpriced, cluttered, big, and ugly)
« on: Sat, 24 April 2010, 19:52:34 »
This was the keyboard I saw going for $200 at memory express:
http://www.logitech.com/en-us/gaming/mice_keyboard_combos/devices/4956

(hey, are those ripster's hands?)

The one (and only) interesting thing about this keyboard is the "gaming mode", where it disables the context and windows keys. I got a solution, don't put them on to BEGIN with.

Other than that, it's a cheap crappy rubber dome. They certainly don't bother to put what type of switch in the features. I'd rather buy a model F for $200: if I was even going to pay that much for a keyboard.

There are always people that will overpay for stuff that is marketed as being good, but is actually the cheap stuff but packaged nicely. Not just on keyboards

In audio: Skullcandy, Bose, Monster (Beats by Dre are extremely mediocre) Machina Dynamica, and numerous, numerous others...

That's very true.
I personally like Creative or Roland for audio. Bose in my opinion has terrible treble.

Alienware would be a good example of overpriced computers (dell owns it!).

Sounds like one of the rubber domes I bought at best buy for $80 (I returned it). I was naive to think that keyboards sold there would be good.

I'd definitely buy a $200 Datahand.
I trolled Geekhack and all I got was an eponymous SPOS.

I wouldn't call that a keyboard. The learning curve is way too high for most people.

I would be all over a $200 Datahand like a fly on ****. Learning is fun, and I suspect that with (lots of) practice, you can pull off some insane speeds too. I use my KB's, try to better my technique. The whole reason I love mechanicals is because they work better.

EverythingIBM:

I take it that you are underwhelmed by that Logitech board.....

...but hey..at least they didn't combine it with that silly aquarium theme mentioned in another thread...now the two put together...*that* would be ultimate...

Joking aside...there is a lot of overpriced junk around, and people do actually pay a lot for it...I shake my head sometimes.

I was so overwhelmed in fact that I started shouting in the store upon seeing such a thing: it shocked me so much; I didn't think that was possible. I may have been over-reacting, but honestly... it's outrageous. I HOPE bystanders heard me and go for some mehcanical keyboards.

I also had the "priviledge" to test THIS horrible thing:

I don't WANT to know how much that thing costs. I have nothing good to say about it either.

Get a Super Carrier and mod it with the USB controller described in another thread.  You'd not have the lights or LCD, but you'd not be neutered by multiplayer game security systems(such as done with G15 & Razer boards).

Or there's the German option of getting a G80-2100.  Same advantages and disadvantages.

If bystanders heard you shouting over a keyboard, they most likely thought you were insane.

Had Razer's other board, the Tarantula.  Looks impressive, but breaks too easily.  No, that doesn't count durability tests consisting of self-defense-by-keyboard.

Had a G15, it wasn't even good for gaming. S key would stop registering unless pressed down really hard. You don't do well at TF2 when you stand still when you don't want to. :(

Only good thing that came out of it was reading up on good keyboards, which led to (too many) model Ms.

Quoted: "... I HOPE bystanders heard me and go for some mehcanical keyboards..."

Actually, the masses do not know or care about the benefits of mechanical keyboards over the cheap plastic POS boards that are the norm nowadays...so if they remain blissfully ignorant...that means more for us enlightened ones....that's the theory, anyway.....

Anita from Chris Coffee modified with a thermometer.

Don't expect to pour consistent rosettes in the first year.

Wish I had one of these when I was single.  Nothing like a little caffeine.  :biggrin1:

Am I reading the price correctly off the website??   $1450??   Wow.  And I say again.....Wow.   And I complain about the cost of my once/week Cafe Americano at Starbucks LOL.

You got me there.  But my lab costs far exceed the norm.  When you can't settle for anything but the best, you pay......and dearly.

......moving towards the wife to see if she thinks we could use a new Expresso maker??

Is she a numbers person?

Assume a $3.10 double cappuccino (2009 price and no tip for those cheery fake smiles).  $3.10 x two a day x 365 days = $2263.  Subtract $500 in local fresh roasted boutique coffee and organic milk and you are still ahead.

Plus, life is too short to drink Starbucks coffee.

LOL!!!  Have you seen this:
