Where can I find a uniform topre 100% board?
« on: Sun, 30 September 2018, 07:23:03 »
Hi. Recently got into this and I'm deep inside already lol.

I researched some and narrowed it down to a 100% board with topre switches.
It seems that the variable version took over the stores, and I really want a simple 45g uniform (and silenced! :D love the thock) 100%.

The realforce website has this versions: http://www.realforce.co.jp/en/products/R2SA-US4-IV/index.html and http://www.realforce.co.jp/en/products/R2SA-US4-BK/index.html (which are listed as "PFU Limited Edition" that has 4 extra keys that change the actuation point, And I really don't want that since I'm gonna use a custom SA set..)

It also has some 55g without it listed as "coming soon" though I wish there were a regular 45g silienced too...(without the APC option 4 keys)
Anyone got a clue if sometime in the near future I could find a regular 45g silenced 100% topre board without this APC option?
Basically this: http://www.realforce.co.jp/en/products/R2S-US-IV/US5.html only with 45g silent switches..

Any information will help!

Avihay.

Welcome to gh :)

Your IP address suggests you're in Europe - are you looking for an ISO or ANSI board?

Also as you're new I have to mention that most Topre boards aren't compatible with MX keycaps which SA are, I'm no expert but I only know of the RGB boards that are.  You can buy sliders for other boards but it gets expensive...

So I guess I'mma go with a GMMK & box navies after all :D (for my 1st build!)
Though I really want to try the topre too.
Any idea about who I should contact regarding the 45g uniform silenced I'm after?

You didn't confirm your location or which layout you're after which would be useful :p

mechanicalkeyboards.com (USA) and The Keyboard Company (UK) sell Topre boards and have subforums on here so you could start by asking them if such a board exists - they may have insider info.

The Realforce RGB takes MX keycaps. I have a number of them with SA keycaps, and they are my favorite keyboards.

Though they have the extra 4 keys which I don't really like + it isn't factory silenced and I don't think I'll be comfortable modding my first board just yet.
I'll hold off till topre releases something which fits my desire (45g uniform silenced 104 without the APC...they seem to have a 55g "coming soon"..I hope a 45 ver would be available too, which should be standard imo...why would they release that variable switch layout I don't really get it :\)
And for the first board I'll probably get a GMMK with navies.
Thank you for the feedback!

BTW - The SA I got off /mm are Dancer TKL&Numpad :D
Lovely design you had there!

As far as I know, only the Realforce RGB is capable of taking MX mount keycaps like SA or GMK. No other Topre board will do that, and I'm not aware of any other Topre product that will take MX keycaps in the future either.

http://www.realforce.co.jp/products/index_office.html

I just took a look because I'm in the same boat as you, I've been wanting a full size 45g silent Realforce for ages.  So much that I had to mod my Realforce to make one myself (Type Heaven domes, KBDFans silent rings), it sorta does the job for now but I still want an official one one day.

So according to the website, it seems like the PFU Limited Edition fits the bill.  However that's APC version only so it might cost a little bit more.  I was hoping to get the none APC version because I don't really care about actuation point differences and could save some money.

But I think for now this is our only choice.

The keyboard you seek is available on taobao here: https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.199.376e35c2YtUfES&id=521072344586&ns=1&abbucket=10#detail

It is the second option (104 special edition English full 45 grams low noise). There is also an R2 equivalent of this model without APC releasing soon in Korea if you'd prefer, though getting stuff from Korea is significantly more painful than China.

Finally, there is the Ducky Taiwan Edition (model no. XF01RS) which meets your requirements, but that will be difficult to find.

Yeah I got it. I'll use the caps for a non topre build. Ty!

Yup. I've done my research too xD. Logic says that after the limited edition there should be a regular version which is a 104 non-APC silenced 45g uniform board.
Not to mention even if I wanted the one with the APC I couldn't find it anywhere lol.

The keyboard you seek is available on taobao here: https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.199.376e35c2YtUfES&id=521072344586&ns=1&abbucket=10#detail

Basically this is the situation then:

1) Either I get the one off taobao which is the 10th anniversary
2) I wait for the R2 version of the 10th anniversary that should be released in korea? (R2 is rerun right? like a second edition? Why isn't it listed on Realforce though? Only the 55g ver is listed)

Well, theone on taobao is 330 usd, will the R2 version be significantly lower priced\different in any sort? If not I might just go for the 10th anniversary since it has everything I want. (45g uniform, non APC, 104 AND silenced!)

Thank you again!

It's priced at 310,000 won, so about $280.

I don't see the problem. Just buy two and swap the 45g domes you need from one into the other until you have your uniform 45g board. According to my calculay, äh kalkul... math doing, it should only take two boards.

I know im a mastermind thank you.

I went for it and modded two Topre boards with KBDFans silencing rings, a Type Heaven and a Realforce RGB.  They're both the most glorious keyboards I've ever typed on now, even though installing the rings was a royal PITA.  It took about 2 hours per keyboard.  You can't go wrong with the price of KBDFans' silencing rings, and I vastly prefer the silenced uniform 45g weight to either the standard or factory silenced variable weight Realforce keyboards I used to have.  My Cherry MX keyboards now sit unused and unloved in the garage.

Cool. I thought about MAYYBE the option of hypersphering - why'd u went with kbd x rings?

I am about to pull the trigger on that taobao 10th anniversary. it'll be 330 usd + shipping as far as I got to know.
I want to ask you in your opinion off course, If I should just hold of and wait for that R2 that you linked? What will be different essentially? I don't mind the extra cash, And I don't like the hustle, just want to get a product which I'll enjoy.
Just to clarify, since I don't understand the language that is written on taobao - this is a 104, non-APC, factory silent, 45 uniform board? I assigned a screenshot from the cart translated and not.
Thank you all for helping me through this decision!

yep that looks perfect. i'm not 100% clear on the new models to be honest since it's all in korean, but you get the updated case design with a different bottom row, and potential hangul sublegends if you're into that, with the r2. good luck and do let us know when it arrives!

Well after some soul searching chinese stuff I got through the rigorous purchasing part. If you the Korean route is harder than that....godspeed to those who go with it.
Will update soon !

KBDFans rings are a fraction of the cost of Hypersphere rings.  I think it was maybe $30 for a set of 100 KBDFans rings, but a set of Hypersphere rings cost nearly as much as a Type Heaven.  I don't know if the Hypersphere rings are any better, but I'm very happy with the KBDFans rings.

I own both they have have their pros and cons.  Hypersphere rings are expensive and thicker, but they silence way better, though because they are thicker so you lose tactility.  KBDFans are thinner so the travel reduction is very small, you don't lose tactility much at all, but it doesn't silence as well.  Also KBDFans rings get stuck if you don't push them all the way down, so when installing you have to make sure you install it properly otherwise your keys will be stuck.

Ideally you'd still want the official Realforce silent where the tactility is unchanged and silent really well.
