How much is a non-windows key Dell Bigfoot worth?
« on: Sun, 30 September 2018, 10:14:52 »
I mean, it's just a bone-stock Dell keyboard, but it does have Alps Blacks, and all the Bigfoots (bigfeet?) I see have the Windows keys. Is mine special? How much is it worth (probably not much)? Thanks!

If it has PBT key caps, they are desirable. Test with a drop of acetone on the underside of a cap. if it melts a spot in the plastic, they are ABS. If it does no damage, they are PBT.

I don't have acetone, is there a substitute for it?

If you have a significant female, fingernail polish remover is acetone.

Otherwise you can look at it under magnification and try to determine how it was printed.

Shouldn't be the PBT model as he mentioned it has black Alps.

It depends a bit on the model number. If you list the FCC ID it may make things a little bit easier. However, as you didn't mention anything about an old logo, it's likely that it's not one of the special models that go for higher prices. The most desirable models are the ones made by Alps (GYI*) which come with PBT caps and salmon Alps switches, and the first Silitek model (GYUM97SK) which came with pine black Alps which are nicer-feeling than those on the subsequent models. On top of that, the condition is a major factor as well.
