FC980m Spring replacement question
« on: Thu, 22 November 2018, 02:20:56 »
Hello Gurus,

Planning to make a mod to my Leopold FC980m (mx browns). Overall the mod will be something like this:

1) Replace spring to something stiffer (thinking about 62g spring)
2) Lube
3) QMX Clips

My main question is - from what I understand FC980m uses Plate mounted switches, but can you remove the top housing? Or do you need to desolder the whole switch?

Thank you!

Hmm have to desolder the entire switch. Might be worth wild getting new switches remember adding in a heavier spring will most likely reduce the tactile sensation of the switch further and lubing it will also. I got a feeling the mods planned are going to make those browns feel like liner switches.

Thank you for letting me know. In that case, I will probably just ditch the spring/lube and just order some QMX Clips.

Yeah also 62g spring is actually very close to stock MX brown spring weight.  Cherry spring is measured at activation point while custom spring is measured at bottom out.

Cherry activate around 45g and bottom out 60g.

Custom 62g spring bottom out at 62g not too sure about activation point but I'd imagine very close to 45g.

So it's a good thing you're only doing the QMX clips.
