Blue Selectric I keycaps
« on: Mon, 17 December 2018, 10:57:37 »
Hey everyone, first time poster here! Iíve been checking these forums for some time and harvesting some knowledge.

I recently sold a nice Beamspring 5251 and while I was restoring it I stumbled upon a thread with similar keyboard that had some blue Selectric keycaps. I found them to be gorgeous and decided to try to find some. I guess that Iím lucky but I found some after a bit of research.

Now the question is how much are these worth?? Iíve been trying to find a price range but donít seem to be able to find a price for these. Any help is welcome!

Thanks for looking!!

If you really want to know the "current market value" of anything used and/or vintage, put it up on eBay and see what the bidding process produces. In the end, they are only worth what someone is willing to pay for them (or several someones are willing to outbid each other over).

I totally understand what you mean but in general itís possible to at least know a range of price in wich an item is situated. In this case the only ones Iíve seen were on a red Selectric I that sold for 450 on eBay a while back. Other then that I havenít seen any for sale, havenít been able to track down a set and from what Iíve heard these seldomly show up once every couple of years. Iíve received several nice offers but Iím holding out until I can try to figure this out!

Thanks for your reply though!

There's actually a thread for questions like this.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But thatís incorrect. Itís in HHKBís slogan, but when Americaís cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
