An introduction and a question . .

An introduction and a question . .

Like many others since stumbling across Geekhack, mechanical keyboards have taken up far too much head space, let alone time fossicking in charity shops, recyclers and trawling auction sites.  Thanks a lot Geekhack.

Fair to say my wife does not understand and has no wish too.. My family either nod non-committedly and say something like – ‘each to their own’, or believe I should be committed.  Keyboards, particularly old beige non usb (read all Model M’s) are viewed as sturdy landfill liners or e-waste.

I’ve picked up various Model M’s, boards with brown and blue cherries, various ALPS (some fake, some not) and even the odd non-clicky (mainly cos it was cheap but they are expensive to buy new). I keep coming back to the ’89 1391401 – just feels right.

Mechanical keyboards are few and far between in New Zealand but I still live in hope that I’ll find a 1390131, spacesaver or black M13.  Buying from the US (read postage costs) is not an option if I plan to stay married.

Who else is in NZ – I’d be interested trying out different boards, trading, swapping etc, and picking up anything on your wanted lists if I came across it.

Model Ms are mostly in the states; and most of the Geek Hack members are Americans. If the shipping is too much, either try ebay or kijiji for NZ.

And it's "Model Ms" not "Model M's" <-- adding an apostrohpe makes it POSSESSIVE not PLURAL. Everyone keeps doing that and it looks so funny. I wonder what non-english speakers must think when reading such grammar.

my geekhack education continues - cheers. Will be Model 'Ms' from this day forward.

Trademe dominates in NZ. Ebay.com.au is probably a better bet for me. I think gumtree is the equivalent if kijiji here.  But regardless, you're right - most Model Ms are in the US with few here to be sold. Shipping is more of an issue for my wife than me - which means that its a big issue for me  :-)

No, that's not correct.  M's is fine.  Especially when in use there is any chance of confusion.

That from Strunk and White?

At my wedding, my wife picked a passage of the Bible to be read. Since I'm not religious, I had to find something else to be read. I was having a hard time finding something that wasn't too syrupy or too grim sounding that I liked and my backup option if I couldn't find anything was to have someone do my reading off of Strunk and White.

So what did you read at your wedding?

My wife and I used an old prayer book. In addition to promising, we plighted troth.
I trolled Geekhack and all I got was an eponymous SPOS.

Picked a passage from a philosopher/writer named James Carse who writes a lot of cool essays about Eastern philosophy from a Western perspective. This passage was about a Sufi parable of a man who knocks on the door of his beloved and is turned away because he came to free her from loneliness. He walks the Earth for twenty years and returns to her door, knocks, and this time says there is value in being alone and the door opens.

Thanks iMav, time to dip my toes in.  Learnt a helluva lot in the past few months reading geekhack, but spent even more time dealing with 'keyboard envy' given the collection of Webwit's and others.  Important to have goals in life . . .

I have been here only a week and with two PC's my two keyboards have grown into six keyboards. I'm afraid I am not yet finished with this experiment.

Shipping from the US is something you have to get used to footing up. In fairness, it's a good thing... If it wasn't for the shipping, I'd have as big a Model M collection as Webwit does...

But the M & M's *IS* supposed to be possessive!
"Mars & Murrie's" is referring that it is THEIR candies you're eating.

So, that doesn't support your claim at all.

And sorry ripster, it IS Model Ms.

M & M's have names? Go figure . .
so much to learn in the land of keyboards and  dragée-like "colorful button-shaped candies" . .
