Hello,

Long time lurker here and on r/mk, I recently designed and custom-ordered a wrist rest made of marble by a local artisan in Taiwan. (where I live)
We have a marble industry with affordable prices, so I gave it a try and I am really pleased with the result :

It is a 36cm long wrist rest so a bit larger than my Tada68.
However, it fits perfectly with my Ducky keyboard.

I glued a layer of cork at the bottom to not have it slide around :

I am now looking for some feedback and checking if there is some interest for this.
I am thinking of making a small group buy.

The dimensions are 360mm*80mm*16mm

For the price, a first small series would be a bit expensive around 70 USD + shipping from Taiwan.

Updates:

03/30/2019 - This project will go to the GB !
It will be a first small GB for 10 pieces, to be sure all is good.
The wrist rest will be exactly the same as the one on photos above.

04/21/2019 - Shipping test (Taiwan to Europe) was successful.
Still, I decided to go for a private carrier a bit more expensive (I will absorb the difference and keep reasonable prices).
I should receive the products this week and target date for GB will be 05/01.
Shipping should be done within 2 weeks after the GB.
There will be 10 pieces, similar to the above pictures.
If this GB is successful, 10-15 others pieces should be available end of May.
Estimated price : Marble Wrist Rest USD65$ , shipping to Europe (west) USD30$, shipping to US USD35$

04/30/2019 - As announced in my last post, the GB has to be postponed to end of May, as manufacturer has some delay in the shipping and I have to go on a 2 weeks trip in May.

05/30/2019 - Pieces are finally received !

Looks great, have you looked into how much it costs to ship a slab of marble international though? I don't think it will be cheap...

I've been looking for a marble wrist rest! The last ones I saw were made too thin, which caused cracking but yours does not seem to have that issue! I'm interested +1

Also concerned about cracking... I’ve tried two different marble rests and both cracked due to what I assume is humidity/temperature changes. In the Pacific Northwest of the US the winter and summer are drastically different in terms of humidity and that seems to push thin marble to its breaking point easily. This looks a lot thicker, though.

All that said, prices are low here and I’m keen to give it another shot.

I would definitely prefer some rubber feet and id be all in on this.

the result is rather... saddening.

The warping of the wood make the marble crack, yours don't have wood so I guess you may not encounter this specific problem.

about the price of "a first small series" is high for me so I will be watching from the sidelines and I may join subsequent round if there is any.

Thank you very much for all feedbacks.

I saw, the previous marble wrist rest made by Royal Glam and the issues they had.
Mine will at least not suffer the same issues as it is thicker and not glued to a piece of wood.
But the piece of wood was a nice thing to avoid it breaking during the shipment, which is what I am the most afraid off and it is why I want to start with a small series first.
Note: I got it shipped to myself without issue but it was not international.

About colors, the first gb will probably be white only, then I will probably offer choice for black and eventually green.
To precise, the color of mine is more white/gray with some black than a pure white.

I will gladly offer more choice of sizes, colors and shapes if I can make some volume.

Hello All,

Thanks for the feedback and the interest!

I decided to go on with this project, I ordered a first batch and the first GB will be 10 pieces.
It will be exactly the same as on the pictures : white / grey marble with black strips and 36cm long.
It will still take a few weeks before I receive them.

I am currently working on the packaging and sourcing all, then I will do a shipping test from Taiwan to Europe.

I also ordered a sample for black marble wrist rest 30cm long (so 60%)

Yes, after this first GB, I will do other GBs with different colors / design every few months.

Small update for people following up.
Manufacturer had some delay with the shipping, so I haven't received yet the marble pieces but it should be this week or next.
However, I also have to go on 2 weeks oversea trip soon after, so will have to postpone the GB to the end of May.
Only good thing, I will take a lot of pictures when I receive them !

It's not a GB yet, it's only in IC phase. Interest checks are used to gauge the level of interest on a project, as well as to gain suggestions/criticisms before the project goes into the Groupbuy phase.

Thanks for the input, that being said,
I’m wary of durability during shipping to united states west coast, I don’t know enough about marble to know what causes it to crack (environment, impact/drop) can probably get it done locally as well. Can probably use a vinyl wrap on anything, which shows how little I know about marble in regards to its feel. As I discover more I imagine my interest level in the GB would I’m going to do research during/after work. Cheers and Goodluck

Sorry, it is a first small batch, only one color and size, but the next batch should have 2 colors and 2 sizes (60%)

Following the success of the first GB, I decided to continue and it is now about 200 pieces that will be available
In White, Black, Green and Pink marble !

All of them 60% size (30cm) !

I should put them on sale around end of September / beginning October. Price should be similar about 65USD per piece + shipping.

I just received the "pink" marble wrist rests from the factory. To be exact, I would rename it "Coral Pink".

As you can see there is quite a variety of patterns and colors from light orange to pink / white !
