A Guitar for Ripster
« on: Tue, 18 May 2010, 04:17:38 »
As part of my continuing efforts to find a life again, I'm leaving the house with no laptop, no SLR, and no worries. I get to indulge in shooting pics with a crappy cell phone camera.

Cute idea though even if you managed to fit it with some pick-ups and get the acoustics right, I have to imagine playing it would be a bit of an abrasive experience.

The cockpit would be a great place to store extra picks though.

Guitars are built out of certain materials for a reason. I'd assume the sound of that thing would be crap. I could be wrong however.

When I sniff the sound hole of my guitar I'm transported to a sweatshop in Taiwan.

I've been listening to a lot of lightning Hopkins lately and quite fancy a resonator. But also been listening to a lot of Roscoe Holcomb and wouldn't mind a nice banj'r to plink away on. Both would be awesome. Just got to wait for a lottery win though :P

for an electric it wouldn't matter too much. it would have **** sustain unless you hollowed out the ship and put some dense wood in there.

Fellow I used to work for found an article about building a guitar from 40,000 year old petrified wood, from a lake in Michigan. He did. It's got awesome sound, and he loves to play it.
I trolled Geekhack and all I got was an eponymous SPOS.

Andy McKee
Michael Hedges
Kaki King
Preson Reed.

Even Melissa Etheridge sometimes shows the acoustic guitar is a percussion instrument.

Petrified wood = Rock.  Not saying it doesn't sound good, but tone-wise it would be no different than a rock.

Ripster, I'm very jealous of your Brazillian wood.

My only guitar at present is an early Japanese custom shop Strat and I'm ampless.

No guitar thread is complete without some overlayed audio on a guitar legend video:
