It started out as a crazy idea in IRC to build a 40% keyboard with a tenkey. However though the information in this thread ( http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=40567.0 ) I decided to attempt to build said keyboard. I would like to give a shoutout to CPTBadAss for helping me with this project so far and Flip for naming it. Also metalliqaz for inspiring me with his awesome Epsilon case design. I thought I would share my progress here.

Planned layout

Plate just cut on CNC mill

Switches and standoffs installed

Keycaps on

Lots of soldering to do!

Backplate and feet attached

Teensy attached to backplate

Left to do:
-Wire up the matrix/ solder switches
-Program the Teensy

Wow that board came out really nice. I thought you said that the plate came out ****ty but it looks really good here. Are you just going to keep it a skeleton like that or are you making a case as well? And thanks for the shoutout! I'm not sure how much I help but I'm glad you feel that I did ^__^

Wow that is pretty cool layout, was exactly what i was looking for (what i was asking samkoiwse in his thread).
Just wondering are you left handed? I know it isn't mounted to a pcb yet but how do u find having the keypad to the left?

I think I already said this in IRC but : This is a cool idea for a layout, and your ideas case-wise have been fresh and unique. I'm glad you made this happen and it looks awesome so far. I can't wait to see the finished result.

The plate is 1/16" polycarbonate I ordered from Mcmaster. It is pretty sturdy although I'm sure aluminum would be better.

I am right handed but I decided to put the tenkey on the left for numerous reasons.
-For gaming I can hit the number keys with my pinky
-My tenkey speed is about the same on both hands
-I prefer my mouse to be as close to the home row to minimize movement
-I can use the mouse and tenkey at the same time

I can say from experience that acrylic in that thickness is not strong enough by itself, at least not for daily use.

Got my new lasered acrylic plates! One was broken but Pololu is sending me a new one free of charge which is pretty cool of them.

Also got some PBT beige Cherry keycaps which look pretty baller.

The spacebar doesn't fit so that will take some work but everything else looks good.

Working on the led wiring as of now and will post pictures when that is done.

I actually 3D printed stems with supports between them. My plan is to dremel out the existing stems and supports and superglue the 3D printed one with the correct stem placement in.

Nope, very fast shipping and great customer service! And they sent me a replacement plate yesterday. Also their prices were cheaper than any other service. I highly recommend them.

Finally some progress!

Modded all the switch covers so I can open up the switches without desoldering the LEDs
Changed up the switches. They used to be browns but now they all have black springs and a mixture of black and clear stems. Lubed the switches while I was at it
Got the first row of LEDs wired up. Only three more rows to go!

The resisters for the LEDs are 150 ohmn and the diodes are 1N4148.
