Thank you, Kishy
Would you mind posting dimensions of the kishsaver: width, depth, and height at the tallest point?

I'm at work currently but I can get both the 62 and 50 key dimensions when I'm home.

Ok pictures are up, I've inspected all the 6019284 keyboards aka the Kishsavers aka the 60% Model F. The good news is that even though the box was a little messed up, there's only three keyboards that I consider bad. And one of those was known to be iffy when we started. The "broken" ones have a dent and I think a broken barrel plate and something else loose. The majority are in good to great condition.

The oldest one was made week 50 of 1982. The youngest one was made February 1989. Most were made in 1983 or 1985.

Full album on my Flickr

I have two packages in my apartment and one coming tomorrow snoopy. Some quick thoughts as I sort through these.

- One box was wrapped better than the other
- The poorly wrapped box has kishsavers missing keycaps
- The oldest one I saw so far was one made in '83
- One has a sticker on the back from the "Pentagon Federal Credit Union"
- Most of them have their labels still
- They were made in Armock, NY

Pictures coming soon. I want to give all the boards a once over.

What will happen to the broken ones?

That's a damn good question. We either play luck of the draw or give it someone who has the patience/drive/time/money to fix it. I'm not really sure what other options are so I'm open to suggestions.

Edit:

Dented keyboard.

I'm just playing proxy guys so we'll have to talk to tinlong. Do we want to refund those two keyboards and send them back or do we want to send them to someone who wants it as is? I can PM him here or on IRC if we can come to a consensus.

What will happen to the broken ones?
Ditto, is there some mechanism for deciding who gets what?

And I think I'm going to collect all the keyboards, do a quick check on all of them, and then number them all and do a random draw. Thoughts?

Just a heads up for you CONUS people, the last package is at my local post office branch. I've been working a lot of overtime so I can't get the last batch of eight 6019284s until Saturday. I also ordered boxes from USPS but I didn't get enough so I'll need to order more which means another 7-10 business day wait. I apologize for any wait for shipping on my end. Please let me know if you have questions on CONUS shipping.

Got the last eight 6019284 keyboards. There are three iffy boards. The boards were tossed into a box without and packaging or bubble wrap. There were a few broken caps.

1) There's something metal and loose sliding around. Maybe a broken barrel? And the cable is slightly cut, like it was half stripped. Has all the caps

2) Bent connector, the left shift is broken

3) Spacebar and | cap broken, there is something loose and metal sliding around like #1.

The other 5 are fine and have their caps.

Pictures:

Box before opening

Inside the box

Bent connector

Wrapped and Inspected

So there are 5 problem boards. One with a dent and one with a broken barrel plate/plastic internals. Think tinlong117 said that the broken one was to be sold for cheaper. Not sure what's going on with the latest three. Tinlong117, let me know what you want to do with them.

I'm also not an F expert so I don't know if something sliding inside is just a broken barrel assembly and is easily fixed or something more.

Next steps for me? I'm going to get bubble wrap and paper. I'm also waiting on a shipment of boxes from USPS. The 6019284 will fit into a medium flat rate but just barely and I would like to put more wrapping around it. So I'll have to order more boxes and get them before I can ship anything out. Oh, and I'm still waiting on the 50key matrix keyboards aka the 6019273.

All the pictures can be found in my flickr album.

I have some really good news guys. There are only 4 iffy boards now. All the "loose metal" issues have now been resolved. I got brave and opened one the iffy boards up. Inside it looks like this:

Those two little brass things on the back of the plate? Those are spacers or wear parts that clip into the side of the case. They popped off and were sliding around the case. I just popped them back onto the case and put the back plate on. No more sliding metal noises!

So now the four iffy boards:

There is a board with a dent.

Then three boards with bent connectors:

The "broken barrel plate" from here turned out to be a bit of plastic that was inside one of the keyboards. I didn't see where it broke off from; I believe it's just a piece of plastic that fell into the box and then the board. They switches feel fine and there's no obvious areas where it shows damage. Leads me to believe that there are no internal issues with any of the boards. Just the dent and 3 bent connectors.

I don't think the damaged cables will be too much of an issue, as they will be replaced with USB cables when the controller is replaced.

That is, unless you have an IBM 4704 terminal you want to plug this in to. And even then, getting a D-sub size DE shell and 4 pins is pretty cheap, so repairing the cable would be pretty easy if it really mattered.

Thanks for taking the time to open up the "possibly damaged" ones. I've certainly learned something new from the pictures.

There are two ways of securing the plates. The "unsaver" keyboards, and these use those clips. The much more common 122 key uses bolts. Both have their ups and downs. I like how the screws in the bottom also hold the plates to the case. That's good design, IBM.

I actually didnt know if the cable mattered. I just assumed it did so thanks for letting me know dorkvader. So apparently theres only 1 damaged board and its the one with the ding. Tjcaustin pulled out so I guess it's up for grabs? Think we'll wait for tinlong to say something about that.
