[IC] ALL NEW Midnight SA set
« on: Tue, 24 December 2013, 04:44:42 »
Please see this post for latest info:
http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=52684.msg1398658#msg1398658

A new GB will take place for SA family.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please help me refine the Midnight set. Your input is greatly appreciated.

Option 1 with light mods

Mixing the two you get nice results

Custom keys

And the colors

It would be extremely helpful if someone with the color right could take a shot of the above colors all together. Thanks!

So how many Group Buys you want to run Matt3o?

I think you're after BunnyLake's record, trying to keep a number of GB's running at the same time, I would like to see that  ;D .

I like this new colourway because we do need a Group Buy with Green and Black in them, let us know if you'll go SA or DSA profile, I think you know which one I'll kill for.......

The x-wing thing is more of a "wish upon a star" thing.

I have just 2 GBs right now. Macross and Midnight. Macross is already on its way. This will come soon after. That's it :)

Anyway they are both part of a new project that will soon be released and I can't talk about just yet :P

For midnight I was thinking standard DCS actually... but it's not set on stone yet.

Really loving the low contrast mods on the first mockup. Escape key might look nice with the yellow legend, like the enter and arrow keys.

The set looks very soothing, very befitting of the name.

Really loving the low contrast mods on the first mockup. Escape key might look nice with the yellow legend, like the enter and arrow keys.

The yellow escape does sound interesting, would definitely standout more but hopefully not too much more yellow keys as they'll standout too much (which goes against the sets theme)

yeah that should look pretty nice actually. I'll add the option.

Cherry legends?

I wanted to do that DCS, yes, but people seem to prefer SA profile actually. Keep voting.

this is like a hybrid of Cheap TKL set and Calm Depths set...but i love this colour scheme better!

i hope you don't make it in DSA profile, giving extra text only keys for Winkey, PrintScreen Scroll Lock and Pause, doing so will result in me emptying my wallet for keycaps again :(

Oh damn, this dude needs a vicious kicking - how could you say this is a "Cheap TKL Set" (unless Matt3o is making it for $20USD each)  ::) ?

We need a Black and Green-like colour-way because we don't have that Group Buy running here for everyone.  Knowing Matt3o he will furnish some more icon's to please the super-fanatics here, so don't worry about that.

I like it, especially when it BECOMES officially, an SA-Profile beauty  ;) .

Anyway, yeah, the icons are awesome. The moon and stars icon especially! I think this would look lovely in either SA or DCS. I just hope I have the cash on hand if this happens... though that isn't likely  :'(

Okay guys.

I totally missed the "Cheap TKL" set.

I don't understand why Boost didn't tell me about it since 1) the color combo was originally proposed by me, 2) his GB is currently on going.

I really haven't seen the boost GB (there are too many around). I don't want to collide with his set, I'm glad the midnight set is coming to life, it would have been nice if he contacted me about it so we could have discussed about some more options (the original midnight was just a draft).

At this point I don't know if this should see the light, at least until boost GB is completed.

Would be interesting to see this set with an option for ctrl alt shift keys with RGB color legend. The light green seems very similar to the color of mint gum CC, which makes it a perfect combo with my mint gum CC. Vote for DCS.

EDIT:

Elrick got what I meant. I mean dark ctrl alt shift keys with RGB color text. Something similar to SoWaRe ctrl alt shift.

You may have something there, having an RGB set "TEXT" colour perhaps, to offer something subtle rather than an all out RGB.......?

The Midnight set not going to see the light - very droll :))
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

RGB legend could be cool. I've always thought gray alphas with dark gray mods (low contrast like this set) and CMY legends would look amazing...

Anyway, not to derail--I think it would be sad if this got binned permanently. Maybe just give it some time after the conclusion of the Cheap TKL GB? Even though it's very similar, I don't think it necessarily collides. The purpose of cheap TKL was to be affordable and thus minimalist. Midnight, on the other hand, has the nice yellow legends, bright mods, icons, support for various layouts, etc. Though the colors are similar, the needs they fill are quite different, I think.

I want this GB to happen. Maybe it will be just procrastinated a bit. Let's see if boost chimes in.

Anyway this is the RGB version

I'm not a huge fan of multicolored legends but if there's interest for such a thing we could add an RGB kit.

I'd say stem is on the left, anyway I believe only DCS has center stem stepped key. So if we go DCS and there's enough interest we could add both versions

darn, i'm torn between DCS and DSA...haha!
i'm not too sure about SA...haven't got any chance to try that out.

btw, love the rgb legend! :thumb:

just throwing a suggestion for the custom keys.
what do you think of having one key with just the moon, and other key having a few stars, another a leafless tree, or an owl?

Now this is what it all should like, nice and conservative, without looking like some kind of feminine product on the shelf at your local pharmacy (like most colour-ways are starting to appear).

Make it masculine as possible without being too "Village People" like, if you know what I mean.

Make both including SA.  We NEED more SA Profile love here on Geekhack.

I don't know about a "stars only" key. I have to make a test. The owl is a nice idea actually if we can find some good graphics.

I will include standard keys (no-graphics) if that is what you mean. Apart from adding some pornography I don't know how to make it more masculine.

I think you know what I really like matt3o.  Something that has little to do with pictures or icons, straight up TEXT.  I thought all the little mobile users would appreciate that  :thumb: .

You'll never see a "WIN" key in any of my GBs (it will read "super"). Apart from that icon keys will be optional of course.

Oh man a predatory owl would look cool. Also I think a 'LOSE' or 'LOSS' key would be funny for a future set, if it made sense.
