Yes - I am just most familiar with TKL so thats what I did with the mock-up. I would think that we would want a full set and get the compatibility that everyone wants if it were to go into production.

I was kind of thinking that as well. I have only owned OEM and cherry profile, so open to whatever.

The biggest thing that pops out to me is the multiple colors of mod legends. You may be forced to pick one for a mod set and then supplement with partial sets for the others.  Best bet would be to email melissa @ SP and clarify with her first.

I've used Solarized a bit at work in PuTTY.

The colours in this set almost make it look like a slightly darker CCnB.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I agree its not a true match - its hard to find a good matching base color for the alphas in SP's color line-up. Added a second mock-up with the next closest color I can see. Any suggestions?

EDIT: IMO, version B mock-up is a little more boring - its closer to a lot of other key cap sets. That said, I'd be stoked if either one happened.

Anyone have a sheet of SP legends available? The mock-ups have all plain-text legends, which I do like, but I know that there are fancy little thingies for shift, caps lock, etc that could be added to spruce it up a little.

Much as I like icons, I think this color scheme looks best with all text legends.

I also vote A so far. How do people normally keep track of this in interest checks? Just let the thread go and gather a basic feeling of what the consensus is at the end?

You can also set up a poll with google docs.  If you do that, make sure you disallow multiple votes by requiring a username entry or something similar.

The first one looks most coherent to me.  With the uniform legends, given that there are already many colors for the fonts (it looks busy enough).  BUT... the 3rd one is definitely growing on me :) This is just my individual subjective opinion, so you should definitely do a poll later :)

I vote for "A" in SA profile.

For proper support of the 60 percent profile, you need to have a separate extra escape key. The "|/" key needs its own mod. Probably done other things, too

Hopefully, a proper ergodox kit can be included. It would be great to have a kit that supported the "mods" of the ergodox with an actual font. The only problem with this is that you would have to pick the "default" layout.

Ah - never had a 60% so I don't know these things :) Thanks for the tip. What is different about the extra Esc key?

Also - I'm thinking there could be an ergodox kit or something as well so it could be supported. I guess it all boils down to how all of this works out with SP and what the pricing differences are etc.

I am getting a strong SA vibe in here - I'd also like to give SA a shot. Any opposed?

EDIT: Also, am I mistaken or are the SA profile caps supposed to be thicker than the other families SP produces?

You all probably already know this, but looks like the only bummer about SA is the cap size on a few modifiers:

When keysets are made in SA profile - do you just deal with it? or..?

Look at the 23 Commando and Calm group buys here.  They have proper modifiers and better profiles.  That's why I pointed to them.

Right on! If you know what you are doing I'm sure they will come out better than my GIMPery. Guessing we need to add an ergodox kit and maybe ISO at a minimum.

So don't worry, we can all share in the love for some more SA's - if the op chooses to go this way, which I hope he does.

I think a base kit like the one in the op, along with with a tsangan, iso, ergodox and numpad should be good. Maybe a blanks kit like calmdepths had gamer kit, which was fairly popular as people love deep dish.

Edit: By base kit, I meant the TKL kit, however it is all up to you. I like the idea of graphic mods as an additional kit.

Yes. In the last 2 SA profile GBs the extra row 2 profile esc key was added halfway through the GB. You really can't use a row 1 profile esc key on a 60 percent keyboard. It doesn't match when a row 1 key is next to a bunch of row 2 keys.

As others have said, look at previous and ongoing SA profile GBs for reference.

It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

Hopefully, the "mods" portion of the ergodox kit can have text/font support.

The previous GBs have blank font-less keys. That would be great if this GB can include text on the "mods". The problem is that we would need an agreement on a "standard".

I could be wrong in thinking I'm alone in believing that the ergodox "mods" could use some text/font support.

Anyone else think this is a good idea?

It is a good idea, problem being everyone has their own layouts, what you can do and I would suggest since I have noted you pushing for legend mods for ErgoDox for quite a while (:P) is to create a thread and gather information on what the most common mods used are.

So create a table with eg

2x Enter - 10 users
2x Space - 20 users
:
:
etc

We can then use this information in the future GBs to produce legend mods, bare in mind, that these would most likely be pretty expensive, as the number of users would be pretty low, as ErgoDox users are currently limited and the legends won't be for everyone.

I like that idea. If this GB idea goes through though, I'd like to keep the mods in the GB and not a separate one if possible.

I know the costs might be higher with the legends and smaller group of ergodox owners. Hopefully, if the GB goes through, ergodox owners will understand the reason for the extra cost.

I should do this extra post as suggested.

I'm not home yet. I'd rather start the post on a PC. I'm on my mobile.

This is a terrific idea. I'd definitely be down for a set.

I'm definitely in for graphic modifiers and SA profile!!  :thumb:

I used Solarized quite a lot, but lately I've switched to Tomorrow (https://github.com/chriskempson/tomorrow-theme).

Maybe it's worth making some mockups for Tomorrow as well...

I don't understand why the mods aren't colored.  Traditionally you have Ctrl, Alt, and Shift with the red/green/blue.  For some reason the mockup leaves those gray while coloring backspace, tab, and enter.  By the way I like the SA profile idea.

I think it looks more symmetric with gray mods and gray function row legends on top.  This is an unusual set, and all the unusual bits make it interesting.  Versus standard dark mods + light alphas, 2-tone set ups.
