The SemiSolar has that aged plastic look, which is really well suited for SA keycaps.

I like Semi-Solar on SA profile -- that would look awesome.

Am I correct in thinking that these are colors you're using?
EDIT: Yep, I see it in the OP, sorry 'bout that!

There is a minimum amount of material that needs to be purchased as well - the cost for that is $575.

Heard back from SP this morning. Apparently there is a charge, so matching every color is probably out of the scope of this group buy.

Do you have SP color chip equivalents for the other colors?

Those are the colors, yes. I used the eyedropper tool to get the colors for the mock-up. Your chip looks a little more yellow than the one I got from SP's site - but its pretty close to what I was thinking.

I do have the other colors. Take a look at the image in the OP.
EDIT: The magenta in the original set was not eye-droppered in hopes that they would match it, RCR is more of a pink-ish..

So, I guess you can't go with the "true" color then, right?

Hopefully, we can get close to those colors.

The whites group in SP's colors looks like there might be a closer match that we could offer for the more true alphas. Any suggestions? Even some of the greys.

That colorset would look amazing on one of the vintage Cherry models, like a G80-1501 or similar.

Why don't you make the bottom row keys orange, yellow, violet and/or cyan since these are unused from the solarized palette?

Yeah - I actually would want arrows myself. I kind of just copied legends from similar sets when I made the mock-ups. I originally had arrows as you can still see in 2 of the attachments in the OP. I should change them back to arrows methinks.

All for doing an ergodox kit. How passionate are people about having multiple colors on the ergodox set? I am wondering because if we wanted alpha colors on the ergodox kit, we would either need to include some extra keys with it (alphas in both colors) or just have all of the keys the mod color.

I don't own an ergodox, not really my thing, so what do you guys want to do there?

Also - I have no idea which profiles the ergodox keys are supposed to be for SA profile.

By the way, we have more votes for the semi-solarized alphas than solarized (60% vs 40%).  So semi-solarized should be the main ones :)

The more I look at both versions, the more I think the semi-solarized is better.

I like that it isn't just an off-white hospital color.

Granted, I would probably like to remain authentic and stay "true".

I think you should go for colored mods, not colored legends for the mods.

Or atleast have this as an option.

Also you can have some colored mods this way for the ErgoDox.

As for profile, depends on what you decide for the base kit, however refer to this GB: http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=45655.0

The 23 Commando GB was radical in my view for SA, as it set a good profile layout that allowed for a very good arrangement for the SA profile keysets.

Has this sort of colorway ( :-X) been done before? A blue and pale yellow? It feels like a nice scheme because it's conservative but not black and white or grey. It's not Handarbeit, but it's not stock Dolch either.

Honestly, I don't have the intention of adding colored mods here. The solarized scheme does not include the bright colors as a base, and IMO for good reason. If tons of people want them for some reason, I'm not against creating an extra keys set for those.

I've added my take on what you might want for an ergodox kit. I am just copying key and color ideas for them from other group buys. I will need help from someone to verify if the kit is sufficient in terms of number of keys and what their profiles should be.

If you think there will be enough interest in having alternate base key cap colors, we can try a poll for that. Also, would need suggestions on what keys should be what color.

ALSO: If anyone is in the bay area (I'm in San Jose), it would be cool to get some sorting help when / if it comes to that to make sure all of the sets go out correctly.

Personally I think you should drop one of the alpha kits.  Keeps things focused and doesn't split the alpha kit numbers ==> cheaper for everyone.

Smooth for wear uniformity?

I usually hope for more smooth key cap GBs.

When you get a matte finish, it feels good for a little while. Then, it feels weird because some keys are smooth and some keys are still matte.

The other issue is in the long run the key tops get smooth and greasy looking while the sides look matte.

In the end, it looks like you type on your keyboard while eating fried chicken.

We should try a smooth set for the next GB.

This is my vote. Lol!

Did not know there was a choice in finish - what you guys are saying makes sense though.

There are a few other developments on this.
  • Started talking with GMK myself just to see where their quote weighs in against SP and what the color selection is like there
  • Sherryton might step up to run this buy for us.
  • hashbaz was right in his previous comment on alphas color. Since semi-solarized is obviously more popular, that is most likely what the buy will run with.
  • We need a completely new name for this set if we do the sun baked color alphas since this is purposely straying from Solarized. So far Photoelectric had the idea for "Penumbra" which sounds cool to me. Other suggestions should chime in if there are any.

It wouldn't be SA if through GMK. Its just an idea - I know everyone has SA fever but personally the only reason I like it is because it isn't as thin as DCS. This being done through GMK will be contingent upon color choice. If they don't have a similar beige-ish yellow, I would not settle for pure yellow. Although, I guess its really going to be up to whoever runs this buy, I just don't think I'll have enough time to pour into a key cap GB.

According to IvanIvanovich, GMK is receptive to making any color if there is demand.  Both he and Sherry have their ABS color wheel samples.  Another thing to note is a GMK set would not have those nice centralized large legends and would probably be more expensive.  The large centralized legends definitely add to the retro character of this set.

If Sherryton would want to, considering his own huge backorder on Handarbeit and another Colourway set.  He's got his business to help prop up any flagging order numbers because we all know GMK are such sticklers for 400 orders of anything.  I still wouldn't rely on GMK to produce these because ultimately we want SA and GMK won't even bother to lift a finger to make them to our specs.

The arrogance with which they keep on displaying shouldn't be rewarded by us.  They either stick to our original colour specs and design or we go straight to SP.

We should never be held over a barrel by one single company  >:( .  Let them sweat for business, instead of us pushing to have them grace our keyboards with their junk (being funny here).

Also I'm happy with the forth coming new naming title of this key-set "Penumbra".  Simple, unique and easy to say.  That's what it's all about  :thumb: .

It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.
