Surprise information:

Remember the picture of a keyboard with a green 1x return, plum and brown keys, and a phone-style numeric keypad?  that got us all on the kick of "Let's add green and plum?"

It appears this is the keyboard of the ICL OPD "One-Per-Desk"

http://www.old-computers.com/museum/computer.asp?c=275

Although we all said "C64 style", the history of the OPD says it's got Sinclair guts!

Wow, it's really cool to see that old computer with such a great set of keys. Brilliant stuff.

Hey everyone I was wondering if I could get some help or pick up a replacement keycap or 2. I bought a DSA Retro set off of SpAmRaY and while popping them on my board I noticed that the stem of the green esc is split. And while taking pictures the stem of the numrow 3 key is pulling away from the inside of the keycap which made it look not centered.

Not sure about the number row cap, but if you want some Green caps to use for "Esc", techkeys.us has a couple ("Geek Hack" and "Refresh")

yea Im really specifically looking for the Green Esc and would rather not use one of the other 1x green keys if I don't have too as I think it wouldn't look as good.

Anyone else had a problem with stems snapping? This just happened to me - only the second keyboard it's been on:

Doesn't look like the stem was very strong - only a tiny single join. This was 8* key...

Wow, that's very little material joining the stem to the cap.

that seems a production error, but you can easily fix it with epoxy glue.

I finally got this set installed after all this time.  I put it on my KMAC2.

I must say they look fantastic but I am having a real hard time enjoying typing on them.   It just feels... wrong.  I'll keep at it for a while to see if I can get used to it.  But somehow the keys seem to have less travel.  Has anyone noticed that feeling?

Yes, the lower the profile, the less travel feel.  I prefer Cherry profile now, as it feels a lot more immediate.  I could not get used to the DSA profile either--the slope with DSA caps is not a smooth familiar curve but rather a flat profile, so middle rows feel like they are at a wrong angle.

Keep an eye on Classifieds - every now and again a set come up for sale.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

(1) It's an epic set.  The style is striking and also unique among the more modern concepts that usually make it through a GB (think RA/Klaxon).

(2) In addition the GB itself was executed incredibly well (it set a new standard) and the construction of the kits was fantastic.

(3) It overlapped with ErgoDox and offered good support for that layout.

Points 1 through 3 meant that the buy was huge.  There are A LOT of kits out there.  This means that if there is ever a Round 2, it would have to be further into the future to make sure there are enough wallets available to make it a success.

There are some new DSA group buys (Hyper Fuse and Dolch replica) that may cause some of these Retro sets to pop up on the classifieds as people need funds or evolve their interests.

Got my hands on a 1x Commodore logo key, but man do I want the set BAD.
Once I get my post count up, I will pretty be posting a WTB on the classifieds and basically spend the rest of my life watching the thread.

Of course, there's officially 1 more interested if another GB did ever get off the ground.

For me, I've always liked the look of spherical keys. I also dig that they're uniform as far as the angle goes. The legends look great, and I love the brown too.

Now, It seems like they're a bit shallower than the SPH keys, but hard to tell without seeing side by side comparisons.

If a black DSA with white legend came up for another GB, I'd definitely be interested in that. Some old systems I worked on had similar style keys.

DSA GBs do occur from time to time.

There was a Dolch DSA one recently - that was nice.

And BunnyLake has done one recently IIRC.

But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

yeah, I've seen them. I just haven't seen any that I liked as much as this, or the black ones.

I'm sure you could find partners to help you distribute ;)

I'd buy one of these if the group buy starts again. Considering how popular it was the first time, and how many people are after it now, it should be successful.

It might help to post if you're willing to pledge to buy a set if a GB starts again, at or around the price it was the first time. I am, if enough people are, maybe we can get it started.
