In all seriousness is the there a good primer on podcast? I'm not familiar with them.

Just basically a radio show that is recorded and then uploaded to various services, including iTunes.  People subscribe to a podcast and their computer automatically downloads all new episodes.  Mostly they are just MP3 files or similar.

I'd listen, but really how much keyboard-related stuff could you include per episode?  Even 30 minutes talking about keyboards once a week or once a fortnight ...

Could do: upcoming keyboard releases, a keyboard review once per episode (although a video review might be more interesting), keycap review, keyboard customisation tips.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I've been listening to podcasts since the beginning with Adam Curry's Daily Source Code, and now the No Agenda Show. I also listen to This Week in Tech with Leo Laporte when I can. My job now keeps me in the office daily, where I used to be on the road every day for a sales route, so I don't have much of a commute to listen anymore.

Anyway, that said, I would love to do a GH podcast with some other members, time permitting.

I am picturing people talking about keyboards, then SpAmRaY's voice pipes up "Can I just say this is the first time I have been on a podcast?".

Yeah it wouldn't be like a huge project.  Just like once a month five or six people get together and talk about projects going on in the community and other fun things.

I don't think there's a mic in the world that won't distort when CPTBadAss laughs.

I don't think there's a mic that won't distort when I get wimbledimbled.

Bonus thing:

This sounds like a recorded skype call.

I mean we'd have a list of stuff to talk about.  But it wouldn't be all formal and stuff.

You could have sections - keyboards being released, new keycap sets, projects on GH, special events (meetups etc.).

i've talked with binge and phedron about MCing a podcast. we also need to do a round of "judging" for the cm storm topcases. this will happen in a bit. obviously lots of things are happening on my end right now, and i'd like to get some of those through the pipeline first, since this will be the first podcast and we'll need to coordinate a bunch of stuff we've never done before.

to all the brilliant friends who have left us, and all the students who climb on their shoulders.

Yeah you've got a lot on your plate.  Maybe some community members could head it up?  I'm sure you don't need anymore projects.

Just a thought - if people in different physical locations are going to be involved, how are you going to record it?

One person records all voices through Skype?

That usually ends up with some people sounding louder and some softer, plus you are at the mercy of Skype.

The Linux Outlaws podcast, Fab and Dan each record themselves, whilst listening to the other one via Skype (or maybe something Google these days).  Then Dan sends his recording to Fab, who merges them and produces a single recording with both voices.  The end result is both podcasters are equally audible and there are no Skype dropouts.  At least I think they do something like that.

It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

Tentative date for next podcast is Saturday, December 14th. We've decided we're going to try and keep the cast to about 4-5 people so it's not too chaotic. Not 100% sure what we want to do next but auctions might be it. More details when I know more.

Some suggestions I have or have heard:

- I need to stay on topic a bit more
- We need to use people's full names: domoaligato instead of domo, etc. Not everyone will know who we're talking about so we need to make it clear.
