Acrylic plates and stabs
« on: Wed, 21 August 2013, 03:47:14 »
I tried searching but couldn't find an answer to this, how do all the cases that use an acrylic plate fit stabs in them, according the Cherry datasheet, the plate has to be 1.5mm, most acrylic plates are around 3mm, so how do the stabs fit? I'm not sure about the costar specification, but I guess it would be similar.

normally boards with acrylic plates use PCB mount cherry stabilizers since the plates are too thick for plate mounted cherry/costar stabilizers

But wouldn't the stabs then be recessed by 3mm?

there's enough meat on pcb stabs to clear the plate

I'll try and explain best I can..

No matter what thickness of plate you use the dimension between the top surface of the plate and the PCB will remain the same, since this is dictated by how the switches mount.

As it gets thicker, the bottom of the plate gets closer to the pcb. However, this doesn't affect the mounting of PCB mount stabilisers.

third fourth picture from the bottom.

If you're looking at the ergodox acrylic plate as an example, I believe those were cutout for costar stabs. Cherry stabs have a thicker width and can't fit.

not sure if this relates to the ergodox but it does not support cherry pcb stabs which is a bummer, stablizers on the litster case uses costar stabs that you have to clip and then glue/tape in.
