I have no doubt.

Portal 1 was the more genial game after tetris.

I'm just not a puzzle game freak...but this will sell like crazy. Valve does make some epic games. I'd rather see a real story-mode Half Life 3.
I'm not so sure they will ever make it however.

lol on that gamestop shopping cart is the official guide, you must be seriously... (something) if you need a guide for portal 2. I think i'll buy the xbox version for some non gamer friends of mine, but actually they would probably need an official guide, they aren't dumb they just aren't gamers at all and i think puzzle solving+fps (or at least first person) would be difficult for them to grasp.

edit, i think walmart has the same deal as well, or was that k-mart... well one of the marts.

Just finished the Advanced maps for Portal 1...I thought they were pretty easy (and most of the maps in Portal 1 too) but Advanced Test Chamber 18 was a pain! Like the rest, once you figured out the tricks it was straightforward but it definitely threw me for a loop more than the others!

I did finish the game, and it was great.
But as a Portal 1 player, I don't think it's... best game in the world.
I mean, portal 1 was first distributed FREE as like a mini game. And I thought that was reasonable for free, since it was quite short and it's a puzzle game.
Meaning, even though there's a multiplay, there would be lack of reaplayability, since you will remember it all after you do it, and you will be able to solve it in seconds.
And that's what happened to me in the 2nd playthrough of Portal 2. I don't really play games 2nd play through, but I just like Valve style of FPS.
But then again, I finished portal 2 in less than 3 hours. Not saying it's like bad of being short (I enjoyed playing), it's just.. it's a puzzle game without randomization or more hidden things.
The map's quite linear, meaning like portal 1, they give you 2 options for shooting, specifically place where you can solve the puzzles. So there's really 1 or 2 options of solving the puzzle.
There's no like versatile or optional coversations hidden a lot, or many characters to talk to if compared to other mini click puzzle games like Monkey Island.
But I enjoyed the game, and I think that's what matters I guess. Besides I am a big fan of Valve, and hope they keep making games like these.
And of course... finish the HL story..!! (they really didn't care about HL since L4D...)
You know what I'm saying :) Personally, I think $60 is overprice for a game like this. Just saying :P

Ehr, it came included with the Orange Box which did cost money. So it wasn't free,  unless you got it due to a recent promotion (when the game was already some years older).

3 hours doesn't sound very likely - unless you know the levels by heart and go for a speedrun.

Actually, some character in Portal 2 actually mentions Black Mesa. Also, there is supposed to be an easter egg which has some map part based on the upcoming HL2 episode 3.

It wasn't free in the beginning, nor was it considered a minigame. It was included in the Orange Box which was 50 dollars at launch.

Also, I feel like this game has 10 times the playability of the first one even without the multiplayer. There are so many interesting easter eggs that you miss the first time through as well as the incredibly fun achievements. If anyone knows how to make achievements fun it's Valve.

Portal 2 is a great game, don't get me wrong, but I think it's a pretty big stretch to say its "the greatest single player game ever". (That'll do for a quote - I haven't figured out how to quote people properly yet.)
I don't know if you guys have played the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, but I consider them to be a much better single player experience. I found Portal 2 to be a bit easy for my tastes. There was only one moment where I got really held up, and stopped playing. When I rebooted, the solution was so stupidly obvious that I can't believe I spent so long trying to figure it out in the first place.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R., on the other hand is completely immersive and brutally difficult. I can play that game for ages, and not even realise that time has passed.
Current collection:
Filco Majestouch 104-Key, w/ MX Browns
IBM Model M 52G9700
Leopold FC200R, "white" w/ MX Clears
Ducky DK9008S \'Shining\', white backlit w/ MX Blues
Cherry G80-3494(LCYUS-2), w/ MX Reds for Portal Mod

Not mine, but I\'ve got access to:
Filco Majestouch Linear R Limited Edition, w/ MX Reds
Filco Majestouch 2 \'Ninja\' Tenkeyless, w/ MX Blues
Leopold FC500R, w/ MX Browns

Just finished the game a sec ago. Not gonna spoil the plot, but man, that whole ending part was epic. As far as difficulty goes, I think it's a deliberate design choice of Valve's to make each puzzle just hard enough where when you solve it you feel like a genius but not too hard to get frustrated. You have to figure, the worst thing that could happen in their eyes is a player who stops playing because he can't figure it out. Or worse, someone who resorts to a FAQ or guide. For the campaign, I'm glad that it never got mind bendingly hard. I think that can be saved for "challenge room" modes or the mod community. Usually I want the plots in my games to gogogogo.

P.S. If you guys want more clever puzzle design type games, you should try out the 2D platformer Braid. Came out on 360 first so I think a lot of the PC crowd missed it, but it's a really good game, I'd definitely put it up to Portal caliber. If you guys want a challenge, play this game. I'd say that game's puzzles are a step above Portal in terms of mind bendingness, especially towards the end, but just like Portal, not impossible to figure out if you think really hard. Another thing is it's a 2D platformer so for those in the thread who said they couldn't handle the 3D FPS nature of Portal, definitely give Braid a try. It is kinda arty so that might turn some people off but I thought it was well done, not enough games like it imo.
