They look very smooth, hardly rough at all. Dude on the right especially, he kinda makes me think of a life-like awesome face. xD

I may or may not be more interested in the hand back there!

Totally camping your site now, WANT.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

potato...

The composition of [Cu]thulu is 40% copper by volume, and I'm not sure of the difference in weight.  I'd say the 1lbs bucket of copper I have is about 80% the volume of the 1lbs buckets of resin I use... so I dunno man :-/

I see what you did there.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Have you tried live casting? I'm going to give it a shot and see what I can come up with. Any pointers would be appreciated.

Live casting?  Do you mean like presenting the process over a video feed?  I've got the entire process outlined in post 1 of this thread, but any time you need help along the way let me know.  Just expect to drop a minimum of $500 on equipment.

By live casting I mean sculpting something out of wax and using that sculpt to make a cast for metals or plastics.

It looks pretty much like what you are doing already. I'm merely just trying to find something to do during the down time I have at work. They won't let me solder stuff (don't blame them), magnetic sculpting has gotten boring, so I'm thinking carving wax into some cool stuff is my next best bet.

I'll go over the OP in detail and get some pointers from you.

I've never heard of live casting, but if you're thinking of using wax, are you perhaps thinking of lost-wax casting?

Yeah I work with epoxy as my sculpting medium.  I may have to try wax some-time, but who knows if the results would be better than what I'm doing already.

I've only ever heard of lost-wax casting being used for casting metal.. And even then, the masters are usually made in whatever the artist feels like, not necessarily wax.
With lost-wax, the master is used to make a mould (probably rubber of some sort), which is then filled with wax.  The wax cast is cleaned up (remove mould marks, etc) and has sprues added, and then is used to create a second mould made out of investment, which is the one you pour the metal in.

Copper does look a little chocolate-like eh?

Here's an example of old mixture vs new mixture and difference in yields.

hehehe yummy camps I love them!

With the 40% copper (left) the copper would trap oxygen in the mold and even with my equipment the air would not degas.  My new mixture is 20% copper (right) and it seems to be just enough to prevent the issue from happening.  So far I have a couple of these caps made up with the 20/80 mixture-- they are a slower process than most of the other caps.  I am still wary of defects so large batches are not in the stars... for now.

In all what do you think of the metallics vs dual colors?

I'll be doing a lot more single color caps.  :)

Was thinking of making an interest check thread or group buy for keythulhu, grizzlekey, lion keyng, and smiling jack.

Have you thought about making holes from the back of the cap to the backs of the eyes of the lion? Backlit glowy-eyes lions?

End users can mod their own keys to do this.  I don't have the tools to do this cleanly and reliably.
