[IC] Augur, a 60% keyboard by JLabs

    Augur
    By JLabs

    Design Philosophy:
Augur is a 60% keyboard which brings premium elements to a less-premium price. For a consistent and enjoyable typing experience, Augur features an isolation gasket mounting system and leaf spring plates. Minimalistic front and sides give way to a striking backside and an elegant bottom. Augur utilizes a Type-C daughterboard to remain immobile while the plate and PCB flex. While the plate is strictly 7u for cleaner acoustics, the PCB supports both 6.25u and 7u layouts. Following the first run, plate files will be open-sourced for non-commercial use. Augur is held together by case screws of two different lengths, so that the screw heads are equally close to the bottom of the board.

    Board Details:
    • Top/Bottom Case: 6063 Aluminum, sandblasted and anodized/electrophoresis coated
    • Accent Piece: Brass, sandblasted and PVD coated
    • Color options: anodized black, anodized purple, electrophoresis coated white (e-white)
    • 6 degree typing angle
    • WK and WKL layouts
    • Isolation gasket mounting system
    • Seamless design

    Plate and PCB Details:
    • The kit will include both full and half FR-4 plates
    • The PCB color is tentatively white, and the thickness is 1.2mm, to promote flex

    Included Components:
    • Top and Bottom case, CNC machined from 6063 aluminum
    • Accent piece, CNC machined from brass
    • FR-4 Full and Half Plates
    • Augur PCB (The included PCB will be soldered)
    • Stabilizer Shims (0.4mm thick)
    • Type-C Daughterboard and JST cable
    • Gaskets
    • Various Screws

    Sales Info:
    • 200 units will be sold in-stock, after which there will be an unlimited groupbuy
    • Kit price will be around $300
    • There will be 50 extra soldered PCBs and 50 hotswap PCBs available for sale
    • In-stock sale will likely occur around November/December (After the fulfillment of the JP-02)

Interesting board. Love that you've put thought into the seamless approach and large weight... I can't help but feel like its just a Tofu when you're looking at the sides / top.

    Looks really good!

Would it be possible to screw the weight from the top instead of the bottom? Ie) so the look of the weight is a bit cleaner without the screw holes.

Thank you for the suggestion! I have considered internal screws for the accent piece, but the accent piece isn't think enough to tap threaded holes in.

Would gb price be expected to be lower than in-stock price?

I doubt .6mm makes that much of a difference?

You'd be surprised. Going from 1.6mm to 1.2mm already makes a meaningful difference.

Hi everyone, quick update, it appears I accidentally stated the PCB thickness would be 1mm, which was a typo. The actual thickness is 1.2mm. Sorry for any confusion!

I'm guessing the answer is no, but would there be an option for split space?

Update: The board was originally meant to enjoyed without bumpons, but due to popular request, bumpons are being added! Expect new renders soon!

Do long strips running side to side and I'm in. Bumpons are so 2017.
Should the pcb compatibility show stepped caps?
