[IC] Halloween Kit
« on: Mon, 06 October 2014, 04:11:12 »
Would there be interest for a DSA + PBT + Dye-sub kit like this?

I reckon it could go in the $15-20 range (don't know yet)

Ghost bro key...yes.  Give it to me.  I'd probably be in just because it's DSA so I can put them anywhere.

Interested.

Would be more interested if it were dye-sub DCS.
That way I could use them with more of my sets.

For some reason Halloween kits always end up being thought of very late, even if these do materialise into GB, they won't be reaching end users before new year.

I think you should also use Christmas as an excuse to make some fancy caps, then.  I love that holiday.

it seems to be quite some interest in DCS too

I can offer both but the MOQ would be pretty high so we really need a lot of interest

well, if in DSA you can put them wherever you want. DCS is also an option, but maybe the function row is a better spot for them

ok bad news, good news.

bad news is that DSA tooling is booked until next year. So we would have to wait a couple of months for a DSA kit. DCS instead would be ready before xmas.

good news is that pricing is lower than I thought, have to check shipping and taxes and I'll post the final figure.

It doesn't surprise me that DSA is all booked up.  It seems like at least once a week I see someone talking about starting a DSA set on PMK.com.

Looking forward to seeing how much this will cost in dye-sub DCS  :)

unfortunately we can't dyesub SA yet, and doubleshot would be too expensive (for all 12 keys)

regarding pricing, I'm aiming at $13.13 per kit :)

Looks good -- I would buy it.

I also wouldn't say no to a Full 104 or TKL set with a gothic-y, Diabloesque font.   Maybe with Cauldrons for the Window key mods and broom or witch's hat for the menu key mod.  Perhaps adding in some glow in the dark ghosties, spiderwebs, gravestones and/or crypts.

DAMN straight  :thumb: .  Offer a full 104 and TKL kit and I'll front up for this with bells on.  Make it all PBT because we here at GH just love PBT to death, hence you got to relent to our basic needs here Matt.

Just shoot us some samples, which all of us want to desperately see  8) .  WE have to have a 2-piece set featuring both PBT and ABS - which will be an absolute first here on GH.

I talked with some resellers and they are totally interested... but it's too late and they want to run it next year. I should run it on my own if we want to have it now.
Sir, I like all your designs (Granite, Midnight, etc), also this one. As far as I know, every GB takes a long time to the final product. Why not start it as soon as possible?
And personally, I'd prefer a small set of novelties instead of a full set.

Told ya :P, this always happens. Start the IC in early July next year so you have a month for IC, a month for orders, and two for production and delivery.

But this is the beta run / really early IC for the first run that will be sold by resellers. So we're still fairly early  ;)

is there really interest for a xmas kit?

what would you like to see in it? I'm not a huge fan of the xmas iconography.

depends on the results, but I would be interested, we don't really celebrate halloween over here, but christmas is something else. I would guess red as the base color(maybe with green and/or white)  some keys with a tree, reindeer and santa on it. Maybe a "ho ho ho' key as enter, backspace, caps lock (any of the larger keys).

Would have to see what you had in mind.

As much as I love christmas, I don't think I would want a xmas themed set.

There was an interest check for a Xmas set last year:

http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=50968.msg1120289#msg1120289

Didn't take off. Green and red just don't look good on a keyboard in my opinion.

Maybe a winter theme with a couple of Xmas novelty keys works better?

I am thinking of white alphas and dark green mods (like a fir tree covered in snow) plus xmas novelties like boxes of presents or a sleigh or snowman or something.

You're right, a winter theme could appeal more people. Novelties could be sled, ski, skate...

No, 4 full sets (winter, spring, summer and autumn)  ^-^

Agree with LechnerDE. I like Christmas and the red and green combo, but a full set just doesn't seem right on the keyboard. It may at times, but overall, eh.

If there was a Christmas theme, I'd go for a kit instead of a full set.

In my opinion, it's not a good time to spend tons of dollars on a full set at this time, since black friday and xmas and new year are all coming. But as a poor student, I still would like to spend 30~40 dollars on a small set of novelties. That's much cheaper! ;)

A christmas novelty set would be more than enough, as Renne pointed it out, lots of stuff to spend money on this time of the year.

However I am semi-serious about the 4 season sets, seems a cool idea to me, and, as I am not really creative, to anybody who reads this and finds it a good idea, please go ahead and make it happen.

Red/orange or red/yellow? Would love to see a set with those colors =O

I can help where possible since I've done a bit of research on it though maybe asking people like Matt for that would be better

For the christmas one, I really like the base. I wouldn't mind having a snowman or a ginger bread man all year round. Haha

Matt just make a key-set design using the traditional Orange and Black colours of Halloween, that's about it.  It's a nice colour-way with many subtle design characteristics that can be added by yourself  8) .

Always liked Orange and Black just use some nice iconography and you'll have a winner.  Don't know whether it would be good in PBT due to their lack of brightness for Orange but do stick with the traditional ABS material to achieve your original design objectives.

Not too keen on an official Christmas set because most Europeans and South Americans follow Religious doctrines during that time of the year whilst us morons here worship a fat dude in a red suit only and fantasize what gifts we're all getting during that time frame.

Best to avoid a key-set trying to depict a REAL (or fantasy) Xmas because it could get nasty and offensive with certain people out there.  For the Christians it's the BIGGEST time of the year and best leave that time alone free from any schlock depiction in key-sets.  Besides we've got all of 2015 to buy more key-sets of just about anything made by SP, so time to give it a rest and enjoy the holidays coming in December.

Also gives people time to save up for the coming year in new key-set buys  :thumb: .

Looks good -- I would buy it.

I also wouldn't say no to a Full 104 or TKL set with a gothic-y, Diabloesque font.   Maybe with Cauldrons for the Window key mods and broom or witch's hat for the menu key mod.  Perhaps adding in some glow in the dark ghosties, spiderwebs, gravestones and/or crypts.

hey all, 1st time here..i was checking around, saw the galaxy class set but was bummed it was sold out..saw someone mention this set in another post and now im psyched again haha..i would be in for the full 104 set if the above ideas were implemented!...now im glad i didnt waste the money on that galaxy class set haha

Okay, one more dead matt3o thread.

What's the reason this/these sweet sets died? is it because they can't be PBT? With Hallowe'en right around the corner, it'd be sweet to get these, but seeing as it'd probably be difficult to get them done in time, maybe a nice Xmas gift?

At that price range, in DCS, and although Halloween is not big down here, I'd be interested.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

You haven't designed a full on Orange and Black (halloween) key-set layout, hence get started already.

Everyone knows your work so go forth with your usual style and care and I bet once you post it here on GH and/or even on MD, it'll go crazy popular.

Have faith in your work because we all know what you have done in the past and they were all perfect key-sets in their own right so we all look forward to another matt3o master piece.

Have already boxes of your your key-sets with your name and date applied to each, because I want more (let's get creepy now) of Matt3o in my home  8) .

I'll look for a manufacturer, but I'm afraid we are a little late for this year's halloween

That's cool...we can save it for next year!

Exactly, gives you time to develop something truly "Spooky" till 2016 front's up  8) .

Orange GiD??
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Hey Matt3o,
Do you think the orange would compliment the Hack'd set?

Yes, that's something that we really need, a full GiD set. Someone make that happen, please...

YES, it needs to ooze a Terrible Orange Glow, like in the foothills of Hell, before being cast into it for worshiping Halloween and all of it's Pagan Symbolism  :p .

Ohhhh man this set is gorgeous. I'm in for 2 atleast. One for me and one for my brother

not sure there's enough interest to run a GB on these...

Yes! I would totally love a full on Halloween set like this, Orange and Purple!

Still interested, even if the set doesn't get here until next year's Halloween. :p
