HANG THAT YULETIDE DUDES!! WE GONNA PCAST LIKE IT'S 1999

Did they (we) even have podcasts back in 1999?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Also, I'm not invited?  That's cold.

I'm inviting myself even if I have to drive to someone's house that's on the call.

The one on one is more to showcase one specific person and things they're working on, I think it gives some good insight into people who usually are just behind a keyboard.

That was an interesting podcast!  I agree about experimenting with different materials, and I too love natural wood varieties.  What I'd love to see is a wood "sheet" for a keyboard top (like instead of layering acrylic, bolt on a shaped piece of wood at the top of the case as a cover), something fairly dense with nice figure, and carved or burned with designs.  Or a fully carved wooden case made of 2 parts.

Random samples from google image search (doesn't need to be that intricate, but just illustrating the endless possibilities):

Add colorful stains, like blue or black/gray, and various oils and finishes.

Alternatively, tooled leather bolted on at the top with some aged looking bolts.

Nice one! I also appreciated the discussion on customs. As a maker and designer, I like hearing what people want, rather than just what I myself personally want.

Good job trying to rein in ming, when he got to talking about woods, finishes, and DeLoreans. We all know how ming loves to talk. ;D

Can anyone link me that thing that could convert an F switch to a digital switch? Or put the right name in text at least? That thing sounds so promising (probably cost too much but still).

Can anyone link me that thing that could convert an F switch to a digital switch? Or put the right name in text at least? That thing sounds so promising (probably cost too much but still).

OK, might have found it: http://www.analog.com/static/imported-files/data_sheets/AD7147A.pdf

If I look at that thing, the only concern would be the delay. Depending on the value I look at, the conversion delay would be somewhere between 3 ms to 200+ms. Anyone know how to read this paper and get a "real life" delay out of it?

Nice thing is that it seems you can plug like 13 switch on 1 of these, so it could be reasonably priced for a whole keyboard.
IBM F122, IBM XT F X2, IBM AT F (all Soarer converted), Filco Camo TKL Browns

Sometime during the podcast I heard someone typing on a keyboard, whoever it was, can you tell me which keyboard/switches you were using? :P
