Doesn't matter for me since I only ordered a 3700.

I'll be picking up the hardboard and cutting it today and will more than likely sanding them tomorrow unless there is a large out cry for another option. Invoicing will be Friday/Saturday if Flynn gets me who ordered them and shipping Monday. Please pay ASAP so I can get this done before I head back to school

Estimated Conus shipping: $13 (Priority)
Estimated Inter. shipping:$24 (First class)

Is only shipping the 3700 also this expensive international?

I doubt it will be $24 since that should be the price of 1 1800 plate + backer wrapped in packing paper and bubble wrap. I'll look at just shipping the 3700 plate later.

so the good man Mr_Beast will be doing everyone a huge favor by shipping these out directly. Instead of all to me and then everyone waiting for slow old me. So the good is that you will get them much much sooner than otherwise.

please do let him know though if you would like option "B" or "C" done on your plates.

also he has access to the spreadsheet and all the info, so he will be invoicing you directly for shipping

thanks thanks thanks to The_Beast

I'd really like to do everything at once. If you'd REALLY like option C, let me know before tomorrow morning (I'll be leaving for the shop around 9am CST) otherwise everything will be finished to option B

Again, since the 3700 plates are so small, they cannot be refinished by me or my laser cutter. You'll have to finish them yourself with some sand paper. (All this info should have been in the OP if it wasn't)

I can tell you that when I had the prototype 3700 plate made, it took at least 1 hour (maybe 2) of wet sanding with a 220 grit sanding stone to take off the 2b finish  get a consistant brushed finish look. Granted, 60 grit would have been fast so, your results may vary.

Just paid in full your requested amount.

Thank you for arranging this I can't wait to start removing all the switches off the pcb and placing them unto these plates.  Although I do need the pics on how to dremel out the casing of the 1800 so that it all sits in tight and comfortable.

Ok here is a quick and dirty summary on what to cut out of your case to make the plate fit. I will re-do this with a beige case eventually so its easier to see, but for now here it is on the original black case

I'd strongly recommend using an X-acto knife and NOT a dremel  to make these cuts. The plastic is soft and easy to cut with a knife. The dremel will just melt the plastic and you'll have to clean it up with a knife anyways

In total there are 8 different spots you need to remove case material. Cuts #1 & #2 are the only tricky ones. The rest will not matter if you remove a longer section than needed

On all of the cuts you should remove about 1/3rd of the height to allow room for the plate

Close up of the cuts around the arrow keys (1,2,3 &4). Be extra careful with #1 & #2 to not cut off the corner or the removal will be visible from above and not look clean.

Close up of the cuts up between the LED's/alpha/numpad area:

Close up of the cuts up between the number row and the function row:

And then you are done! If you have the 2 screws for connecting the bottom half to top half of the case, i'd recommend installing those as well. With the plate + those screws it is like a tank

Thank you so much for this visual presentation  :thumb: .  So it looks like the plate simply drops into position within the case structure (after making the modifications)?

Can't wait to try it out on one 1800 keyboard.  Hope not to stuff it up.

Not sand blasted. It's the same machine the laser place has but much much smaller (they have a surface sand with a digital thickness gauge, I just have a surface sander that is manual). They only do one pass and that's why my plates tend to be bowed a bit. I did 5-6 lighter passes and they shouldn't be bowed nearly as much. They also may use a higher grit than I did, I used 60, I think they may use around 80 or 120 since the grain of there's is much finer
