[IC] 88 Commando: Combat Soldier Keyset - Army font
« on: Fri, 27 May 2016, 04:56:32 »
FILL THIS FORM TO LET ME KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS

====> INTEREST CHECK FORM

Signature Plastics SA family R1-R1-R2-R3-R4-R4
Doubleshot keyset
Semi matte finish

Key set will be made with new Army font for almost every key, currently there are about 140 new legends and might be a little bit more if we have enough fund to do so since I still have a lot of ideas with it.

I've succesfully raised ~$3,000 thanks to generous donors from my Valentine GB. Around $4000 more to go, so don't be shy and DONATE, soldiers! Your act will be remembered forever in the glorious history of the Key cap evolution!!

If you think any key should be available in the Group Buy just give me a note.

[Update: 10/09/2016]

Thanks for all the support, guys. Love you muchhh!

Here are all the options for this Keyset GB... for now:

1 - Combat Soldier kit - $95

2 - Upgrade kit 01 - $45

3 - Upgrade kit 02 - $25

4 - Numpad kit - $30

5 - Gamer kit - $15

6 - S:76 kit - $10

7 - CS kit - $50

8 - Forest Commando kit - $70

9 - ErgoDox kit - $30

10 - Vietnamese Lotus kit - $15/50

11 - WASD kit - $10

12 - Blank kit - $20

13 - Enter kit - $15

23 - Ghost Commander set - $250

GB thread is awaiting approval now.

And about the Red Alert kit, it got removed due to high cost and I was really sad. But I'm now talking with a certain artisan about my ideas to see whether or not he can help me to make it happen... So let's wait and see. I will keep you guys updated.

Thank you!!

[Update: 27/08/2016]

I could provide pack of 3 pad-printed legends on the existing keycaps in your order at the price of $15 ($5 each legend). Legends will be printed in the front of the key cap.

If you want the pad-printed legends on extra keys, the price should be $5 per legend + $4 for each extra blank or $6 / $8 for each extra mod / spacebar. So basically you can have it printed on any key you want, just give me a note for specification.

More
Hello there folks.

It's been a while. I just finished this recently and hope you like it:

The keyset will be made in SA family, row profile (1-1-2-3-4-4?), double-shot molding.
There are few kits still under process and I will finish it and post it up later.

As you can see in the mockups above, I want to use new Army legends for almost everything. That was what I wanted to do to the 23 Commando keyset but it was impossible back then. Just successfully complete the run was hard enough. It (the $50 each new legend fee) is still an issue now (>110 new legends) but I think we can manage to resolve the problem with enough support from everyone.

I will start by collecting your thoughts via this Google form here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1D40e4FlZ8HIFdnojHlAbO-SjIuExq4tLwghwzCCPByA/viewform
The prices of the kits will be added some $ to cover % of the legend fee and I'm sill calculating it to get the appropriate solution. It's not set yet. Based on the responses I will come up with the final prices.

It's not a blind run since you can have a look at my previous run for the actual colors : https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=45655.0

Leave me some comments please.

Thank you in advance!

Glad to see you back :D From my point of view, I think the legend of number on 2nd row should be bigger to match the legend of characters.
Or You can create a new child set of numbers, just like the strip.

I appreciate all the kind words ladies and gentlemen, but let's discuss about the keyset.

Glad to see you back :D From my point of view, I think the legend of number on 2nd row should be bigger to match the legend of characters.
Or You can create a new child set of numbers, just like the strip.
I guess a child deal would please you

Good to see you back!

Suggestions,
1. Increase font size for the num row
2. Terminate should be on Backspace
The Backspace it's a good point!

Is there gonna be the yellow gamer kit and the lotus kit as in R1?
There will be Gamer kit. Lotus kit is still under consideration.

Thanks again!

I won't say the number row must be bigger than now but rather it must balanced with the alpha, so maybe the alpha can be the one that needs to be smaller because compared to the text in mods they're still looks too muscular.

Very nice, haven't seen Commando in a while, is this also round going to be textured? If I had a board for it, I would love to get a hold of one of those shotgun shell keycaps to go with.
I've come to view humanity as predominantly monkey business.

I think this was one of the first sets I saw back in 2014 when I bought the Filco Camo 101 key hoping this would ever come around for sale. And now here we are.

Thank you.

How about khaki/desert/beige modifiers instead of green? Or have them available as separate kit.

Looks good.

My personal preference would be to have a "Field Drab" color (slightly darker brown base set). Maybe the pictures of the 23C make it seem like the base set is almost an off-white vs a brown.

2 days have passed and I got >40 tkl kits, 30 upgrade kits and 25 numpad kits registered... and of course there're many suggestions as well. It's promising. Thanks everyone for your input.

I know there are people who haven't filled the form yet, so please give me a minute filling the form in the #1 post and let me know your opinions about the prices, the contents of kits and such... I want to know about how many of you will take the set when the run is live, so that I might provide a better solution. The more people joining and donation => the more legends will be made & more kits will be present.

The images in #1 post are mockups. I will have a proper one made after I have every legend done.
I also think the legends of the number row "`123..." should be a tad bigger.
The legends of alphas should be as large as the "WASD" in 23 Commando keyset gamer kit & upgrade kit 2. Legends of modifiers should be as large as the "ESC" key of the same kit.

Other color combinations are great and I'm open to any suggestion, but let's save it for future projects after this set made with the new font. I really want to complete the Commando set first.

I heard that there would be a Filco Camou sale next August in my country. Don't know if there is any sale elsewhere so maybe you might want to ask around if you don't have a Camou board yet.

Good to see you back here jil_jil32, if you want to run this through Massdrop now since most newbs are happy to allow MD to do all the collection and key-cap manufacture.

Shall save you time in gathering all monies and organizing the manufacture on your own.  You know what it's like when something goes wrong, massive claims and arguments about a Group Buy that fails.  Just saying protect yourself and put customers first by providing a safe way for them to buy what they desire without losing all their money.

Not trying to be a spruiker for MassDrop but if anything goes wrong, they can wear the complaints and failures due to providing everyone full up-front refunds, if anything should go wrong.

Hi there old friend. It's good to see you around, too.

I'm now focusing on preparing the "materials" for the Key set, then I will decide about the distribution process.

will you add 00 key for the numpad? (or another r4 1u awesome symbol key?
Of course it's possible if we have enough fund.
You also can ask me for extra keys (blanks...)

Your first Group Buy was PERFECT, love your design and they are still on some Filco's downstairs which happen to be all Camouflage models  :thumb: .

Already know your commitment here so this second version will be the ONE to own for this year, it's for the Platoon soldier, so get going on this as soon as you can.

These colours are not for me but if you want to sell a lot of alphas to cover the mold cost could you make them seaparate to the mods etc?  That way people could upgrade their original sets and people using ergodox/planck/random custom layout would be more likely to buy as they won't have to pay for all the unused keys.

Are you going with the glossy finish this time around or the matte like the last run?

[Update 16/08/2016]

I've ajusted the content of the current kits, and I'm adding some kits to complete the whole set I would like to run this time.

Basically the Commando set - Army Font shall be run in SA profile 1-1-2-3-4-4 and in semi-matte finish.

The Upgrade kit 02 including some 1.75u keys, and also 2u, 2.25u, 2.75u & 3u keys for different needs.
The Ctrl, Shift and Spacebar keys in CS kit will be pad-printed and I'm still thinking about the possition of the image (on top or in the front skirt of the cap).

Erm... if you spot any strange thing please tell me!

1/ TKL kit

2/ Upgrade kit 01

3/ Upgrade kit 02

4/ Numpad kit

5/ Gamer kit

6/ CS kit

7/ S:76 kit

8/ Forest kit

9/ ErgoDox kit

I really like this! First army themed keyset I've seen that's achieved well - it all works well together.

This is nice, I'm sucker for green & have yet to get a mainly green themed keycap set, hopefully, this will be the one!

I made a quick mockup for the "All Green" version. How about it?

Beautiful, I love it. I really want all iterations of this set. Please keep me/us posted!!
