But yeah, EK has lowered the prices on the Type-S. I think it used to be 450? So who knows. Might just see a slightly lower regular HHKB Pro2

And the next step from CM making MX compatible Torpe switches would be individual MX compatible Topre switch modules for custom layouts.  That would make me want to build a topre board

I'd definitely buy one, maybe even a couple. What is the cheapest Topre board?

One just sold on eBay for $40.

I notice two things that I haven't seen pointed out yet:
1: Keycaps appear to be cherry profile. I can't tell the plastic for sure, but I suspect PBT (or possibly POM).
2: The left button on the mouse shows evidence of some wear / use , which means they have had the sample in hand (hah!) for a while and they will likely be releasing soon. (Either that, or the finish is wearing out quickly.)

Now if only HHKB was backwards-modifiable to this, we could finally have custom keycaps for HHKB in a range of colours and styles.

If they were going to the trouble of making MX compatible topre switches I don't that that making MX compatible stabiliser inserts is much of a stretch. HHKB does have a 6 unit space bar I'm pretty sure.

Highly commendable work by CM, even if it doesn't reap fruit, the fact they'd go and try this itself.

I don't doubt they made new stabilizers but retrofitting into a hhkb could be difficult depending on how.

I was getting ready to pull the trigger on the Filco FC660C, but now I'm not so sure; Topres with Cherry MX stems would be quite an attractive option. Is this mystery board likely to show up anytime soon (CES 2014-ish, maybe)?

I was getting ready to pull the trigger on the Filco FC660C, but now I'm not so sure; Topres with Cherry MX stems would be quite an attractive option. Is this mystery board likely to show up anytime soon (CES 2014-ish, maybe)?

No-one knows what it feels like yet.  It might not have that Topre thock.

But if it does feel the same, then the main benefit is custom keycaps!  Assuming it has a standard layout.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

He's said to much already. They've imprisoned him with only Dell rubber dome keyboards to type with!

Assemble Strike Team 6.
Our mission is to infiltrate the dome compound and extract the informant.
From there, we are to secure any prototypes devices on site.
We'll need to exercise extreme caution.
In the unlikely event that we are unable to safety extract the informant ... all right screw this. Stop teasing us and give us what we want :) oh and the mouse too.

I can't see them going to all that trouble with Topre switches just to make them feel like Cherrys.

Also, custom keycaps are a big deal for me, as I spend a lot of time swapping between QWERTY and Dvorak. Being able to commission a custom set of dual-label keycaps from WASD and then put them on a Topre board would be pretty much ideal.

Topre switches on a WASDv2 would be even better, but I'll take what I can get!

On that note, are we going to see any fun extras on the controller like in the WASDv2 (QWERTY/Dvorak swap, Ctrl/CapsLock swap, Alt/Super swap for the Mac crowd, &c.)?

I'd definitely buy one, maybe even a couple. What is the cheapest Topre board?

One just sold on eBay for $40.

 where?

Probably some jealous gh'ers significant other.

$45 shipped, not bad for an all-metal cased topre.

DV, are those a certain known weight, i.e. 55g? It'd be nice to grab one of those for some cool caps and the rubber domes.

Shieeettt, this may make me rethink buying a ergodox.

But gawd I hate TKL layouts. Will you have this in a 60%, 75%, or full size layout?

TKL is the smallest they've gone, so I really wouldn't be planning on something smaller; but it WOULD be awesome!

Remember the thread about making a gaming ergo board? ErgoDox with Topre switches with Cherry MX stems!

To me, it wouldn't make much sense if CM made these without replicating every aspect of an original Topre switch. I'm excited because I know they will make it identical, if they haven't already done so.

I've been told the price for these is going to be about £120 for a TKL and £150 for a fullsize. Things are looking good!
