I'm using StraightTalk unlimited for $45/mo on T-Mo's network. They say unlimited, but I think they start throttling at 2GB. Not sure, as I haven't hit that limit yet.

Shouldn't be too much longer now :)

I have friends who have the same plan out in Cali and they really like it.

Going from a Nexus to iOS makes you feel so crippled.
Most Iphone users I run into use their phone for Facebook, phone and camera and that's pretty much it. If you don't use it for anything, of course you don't feel crippled. Nothing like carrying a delicate $700 computer just impress your friends.

One of my neighbors is paying $350 a month for 4 Iphones in his house.
Can't buy anything but crappy used cars and computers, and barely makes rent, but they all have an Iphone with unlimited everything.

This thread makes me feel dirty for thinking of getting an iphone (whatever is new in october) instead of just whatever is bleeding edge on verizon at the time (or sprint, my bill on VZ is a little steep and can get 4g LTE on sprint for the cost of adding a line to parents' business line).

Drug dealer or adulterer?
Truck driver with a wife and two kids.

The wife constantly thinks he is off visiting prostitutes so she is on the phone with him ALL DAY. Seriously, when my dad drove truck with him (different trucks), the guy was never off the phone more than 15 minutes at a time with her. She manages a Jiffy Lube or something, so she can be on the phone all day in between customers.

Not even the real estate agents I work for use up the minutes these people do.

Since I occasionally go on biz trips as a change from working at home my wife (stay at home) gets lonely.  I end up on the phone with her for hours on end... in silence, or watching the same movie if I'm off work.  A headset works well here, but it can be amusing when the waitress knows I'm on the phone and she politely holds off a bit and I wave her over and talk to her just like I'm not on the phone at all.

I have a Galaxy S1 (fascinate) that is sorely in need of replacing.  The S4 isn't availabe for me yet, and the Moto Razor Maxx HD is tempting.  Once that happens I plan on zilching my personal line (dumb flip phone) finally... should have done it ages ago really.  I've been pondering Page+ for my wife after that.

Got my HTC One on AT&T the other day

Had a Galaxy S3 on Sprint but i just couldn't take them anymore and we paid the ETF (~$300 together), Sprint was fine in Atlanta when i lived there but here the worst service, quality, and speeds in central va; just horrible horrible data and voice signal. No Sprint LTE planned for central va for another 9-12 months and even though its unlimited, i was paying for unlimited unusable data signal and dropped calls plus the SoftBank takeover worries me.

AT&T is no perfect solution, they have a lot wrong with them too, but the HTC One is a great phone and i get a decent work discount on the carrier, speeds exceed 25Mbit on LTE, ****ing blazing. No dropped calls yet.

Got an s4 not long ago since us cellular sold off their towers in my area. No pic since it's also my camera, but it's just a pretty standard s4. Posting from it via tapatalk now. Pretty nice, though I do miss my freeforms week long battery.

Since this is a keyboard forum, I'll mention I'm using messagease. One of the few designed for touch, and not just a typewriter board modded for it.

I used to stay current with phones and sell my old ones too. Now I only change whenever I think there is something substantial / new feature that is important and was not on the other phone. I kept my HTC desire for about 3 years and plan to do the same for the Samsung Galaxy S3. My girlfriend now has the Desire, and while it is showing its age, I could probably still use it and be happy. However, since 75% of my phone use is actually not using the device as a phone, I wanted the larger screen.

I have the HTC One with T-Mobile. If any of you are looking forward to purchase either the HTC One of the Samsung S4, you can't really go wrong with either of the two. I've played with a friend's S4 and it's a great phone as well. The reason I went with the HTC One is almost entirely due to aesthetic reason(s): the aluminum case is elegant.

I also had a Nokia N-gage for a long time. People thought it was weird, but if they only knew. That thing was awesome and ahead of its time with all the things that were possible if you were willing to put in a little effort. It was also virtually indestructible.

For me, the tipping point for the One is the boomsound.  Apparently, hands down the best speakers you can get on a smartphone.

I can't deal with old phones because I do a lot of web browsing and they are just way too slow for the new web

You have both?

They are both so nice, but the s4 i think is too similar to the s3, doesn't bring anything fresh to the table sadly, while the One is very very nice in hand I'm a huge fan of that phone too bad I'm just so used to iOS I don't think I would change

While both of those are good, I really don't think in this day and ages it's really needed

I mean back then with the BlackBerry you definitely needed to take out the battery to reboot it but phones these days not taking out the battery really doesn't limit much, though I can understand someone wanting full access to their phone.

As for removable storage, I think some people just don't require it while others must have it sorta deal, if I have it I would put in the micro SD and probably never take it out while I know some people that take it out all the time.

I'm with you, but it's convenient. I have never once charged my Galaxy Note 2 since buying it. I got the extra battery + charger for $25 and again it's nice never being connected to anything.

As for removable storage, it's not about the ability to remove it. It's about having 32-64gb of extra room for things, so you don't have to dropbox files or stream movies, both of which use data.

I guess if you really need 64GB of extra storage, but if you're in the US with all the music online streaming apps/tools I think storage space on a phone is becoming more and more obsolete

Most phones comes with 16-32GB these days, personally I think it's more then enough but I also know people that requires much more then that, well thats why there's so many options of smart phones these days, everyone wants something slightly different

If you stream too much while not at home, you'll have to upgrade your data tier. It's fine if some people are okay with that, but other people like myself are not :p

Most phones comes with 9-25GB these days, personally I think it's more then enough but I also know people that requires much more then that, well thats why there's so many options of smart phones these days, everyone wants something slightly different

FTFY, you're not including the base ROM or system files and ~9GB before installing a single app is simply not enough for many. I think this is a big reason Samsung is popular, being that they're the only major game player who didn't take these options away.

PS - I agree with a lot of what you posted, but I don't think it applies to everyone.

Most data plans cap out at 2-5 gigs, if you stream a lot, that's really not a whole lot of data.

Besides that, it's backwards thinking.
Carriers don't want you streaming, but they keep promoting it and pushing phones that need it. Meanwhile they face shortages.

Storage is CHEAP, however if you want it built in, you will have to bed over. Look how much extra a few gigs cost on an Iphone compared to a simple SDcard. Cards are nice because you can add more later if you need it, but you can still sell the phone cheap to begin with.

I am already sitting on a 64GB card.  Corp store only offers 16GB S4, 32GB Maxx HD (and some other models, or every iPhone there is).  16 is certainly not enough and since I don't like streaming, 32 can be tight as well.  I don't pay for bandwidth either, which perhaps is silly.

There are multiple reasons why Android OEMs are getting away from the uSD card.  They all have to do with money.  Not having the slot simplifies both the mechanical and software design and it allows manufacturers to do storage capacity tiering, which they like.  Then there is the patent encumbered file system that the SD Association decided to straddle the SDXC spec with.  That is the final nail in the coffin, I'm afraid.

True, but I don't think Samsung will be getting rid of them anytime soon. They make their own uSD and batteries, so I think they have more to lose than other OEMs.

I would buy that, except that it's in carriers best interest to not have everyone streaming everything and they do have a say on the matter.

I do agree though, it's a matter of money for the manufacturers, but really, the cost isn't THAT much.

The cost is enormous when you consider who is holding the patents in question and how they have been playing in the mobile phone landscape lately.  They have no interest in negotiating reasonable rates with companies that they are competing with (and actively suing).  It's a huge problem and OEMs are sick of it.

Unfortunately, it's hard for them to work together when one of them basically invented the device and the others have been copying bits and pieces of it all along, sometimes more than bits and pieces in fact.

Got a gs4 today, I liked the feel and look of the htc one as well and I'm sure I'd be happy either way as when you boil it down, they're very similar devices, but my other hobby is being an audio dork and as such I keep 30-40 gb of music on my device so the htc one won't cut it.

My galaxy nexus(32gb, no sd like htxone) was jam packed and I would regularly have to prune things to get updates to work.

I guess if you really need 64GB of extra storage, but if you're in the US with all the music online streaming apps/tools I think storage space on a phone is becoming more and more obsolete

I really think that is hypocritical of them, that with data cap. In the beginning a company like AT&T was up in arms to get the iPhone and after a while it was the bad iPhone users that were the problem. Really?
I stay normally under 1GB of data since i don't stream anything at all. But i could.. and i am on pre-paid :)
Last time i checked contracts, it made me not wanting a phone at all.
