ive had my eye on this unique layout for awhile, i'm a big fan of 60% keyboards but i really like dedicated keys. this is kind of the best of both worlds. 60% with the rest of the keys up top.

i'm going to be ordering parts soon. renders below.

case is aluminum plate, wood midplate spacer, clear acrylic bottom plate with pockets for teensy++. and a big fat aluminum foot for weight and style

I am working on its smaller sister, the Fantasia, a 40% with a bunch of extra keys up top for happy fun time!

Really nice project, but can you explain the layout? Why not make another 60 cluster on top? you could have some extra programmable keys. Either way its still unique and interesting looking. I wish I had something I made on my own.

It's a throw back to the Datalux space saver keyboard. I really liked the layout as I love 60% boards but I need dedicated keys when I do cad designs and pcb designs. Also I don't see many of them so its rather unique in a way. Or more rare I guess.

That thing is so big and beautiful. One of the few times that I'm digging the empty space.

) yeah they are pretty interesting. i'll likely swap them out i just had them all together and with in reach. i'd love to get a real nice set but thats not in the budget at the moment. unless i get a donated one

small update

with a pile of help from VanKeyboards i got the firmware sorted a few keys are not responding but thats likely crappy solders on my part.

i have to order another mahcining bit for the aluminum foot before i even attempt to cut it. hopefully i'll have more photos soon

Im calling this thing the Dataluxxx. But if i was to give it a van keyboards name it would have to be the 15 passenger church van or the mack truck hahahahaha

and yes this is in part one of the reasons for that question. i also have other projects in the works that would benefit from a logic controller jumping off point. making PCB design extremely easy. there is a schematic for a teensy 2.0 ++ but i'm not experienced enough to replicate it into kicad. i need to take another look at the GH60 and other OS keyboard PCB's. seems like something like this would already exist and if it does be more widely talked about. but i guess alot of people just make their own.

Finished the foot today.

Final product weights in at 2lbs 15oz. Solid

It was my first time cutting such a thick piece of aluminum. I think it came out alright.
