Guys, how do you like the white PCB?
Are we producing the final order white or going back to black matte, as rev A?

I vote purple (no chance, I know) or black

But honestly, all my Gh60s will be behind plates so I don't really care

I think a brand new white PCB looks nicer. However, soldering discolours white PCBs very, very easily. Because of this I'd prefer a black one.

this too. also i think that many people expected a black pcb since that was the only color presented and made plans already.

So everything is looking mighty fine here but what if we asked for assembly, how much longer would I have to wait for that to be done, asking for an estimate, not a pinpoint date.

If we've ordered switches from 7bit over at deskthority, how do we get those delivered?

since the distribution of the pcb/plate gp through jdcarpe/wfd or komar and you would get it with the plates from them in a package I would guess. (if you told 7bit to ship the switches for the GH60 project)

Yes, but how do we link the orders? Forum username? Paypal email address? Shall I send a private message to someone with the contents of my order or something?

Yes, that's a good point. On the other hand I'll use plates anyway so it won't matter for me ;)

I like white best, looks so clean. You only solder on the back, so would it decolor the front?
Either way, I'll be using a plate anyways, so I won't even see it :)

Guys, to be clear, WFD was obviously joking that orders are ready to ship. These are prototype Rev B PCBs. Nothing is ready to ship yet. These need to be evaluated, then actual production of the final revision PCBs will begin. I know everyone is ready to have them in their hands, but the end is in sight. Just give us a little longer now to make sure we do everything correctly.

Thanks!

Honestly unless you go with a case that is clear you will never see it. So either works fine. Black is what was pictured and has been what was expected but comes down to personal preference while they are being built. I think white is pretty but with the high light I use for working the black would be easier on the eyes.

The white looks sexy because it's fresh to my eyeballs, but honestly both look fantastic.  I'd be happy to take either.  Quite honestly, the layout is really what is what looks best on it.

The logo and placement are really classy, you could really make them in just about any color (white, black, red, blue, pink, purple, dark green, etc.) as long as it looked okay against gold.  And I'll be thrilled with any of them.

Just swear not to introduce delays to change the color :).  I may be a little antsy to get mine,

I don't really like the white... I think it would look a lot more minimalistic or "pure" with just gold and black, without any third color (like in this case the red). Also I think black looks better for PCB mounted boards.

Honestly I think black is the better choice, especially with universal plates where the white one would easily peek through the holes.
As bare PCB, the white one really looks fantastic!

I agree that it doesn't matter.
It is in a case and covered by the plates.

I ordered 2x universal ansi plates so little bits of the pcb will show anyways but it doesn't really matter what color it is.

That white pcb is boss and that is my vote.

The white looks great, but as I recently found on my 3d printer, it's a lot harder to make out the traces and make repairs if something gets damaged. In the case of my printer, it's easier just to replace the part than to try and follow that trace and bypass the problem.

Ok everybody, your orders are ready to ship out.

jk <-- spoiler here

If you haven't figured it out yet, I was just kidding about orders being shipped out right now. Hover your mouse over the spoiler in the original post yesterday  ^-^

Anywho, these are the final prototypes. They are great, but I still need to work with komar on a few minor technical things before the mass production or PCBs and plates.

Originally, only these prototypes will have white soldermask with red silkscreen, and the final product will be matte black soldermask (like the first revision prototypes). We'll probably stick to the original plan of black PCBs, unless there is an overwhelming preference for white PCBs like these final prototypes. Maybe a quick poll can be taken for a few days until we submit final order. Pics below, phantom also included for comparison. Maybe more comments on the rev.B PCB later.

top: GH60 rev.A, matte black
middle: GH60 rev.B, shiny white
bottom: Phantom, shiny black

PS - do not PM me to buy prototypes, only a few were made and they're reserved for certain people already.

Most likely not. It'll probably count as 2 different part numbers, which will increase the cost of all of them. The price that you paid for was for a certain quantity tier. Lastly, I don't want to deal with mass PMs to see what color each individual person wants. The options and customizations from this GB is complicated enough.

I will not be using a plate, and that white PCB looks fantastic. I vote for white, but black is fine too I guess (though if one of the lucky few getting the prototype pcb would be willing to trade for my final order that would be fantastic).

I'm very excited, for the conclusion of this GB.

As much as i think that white pcb looks slick as hell, i think i'd honestly prefer the black matte. I've always been a matte-black kinda guy. :P

Also, saints fan, so black+gold works for me.

More also: it seems kinda pointless to worry about making a pcb so pretty and shiny, if it's going to be covered with plates, switches, caps, a case, and a bunch of solder marks. Mostly covered and singed, just screams "black matte."

What about a compromise between white and black? Matte Primer Grey, perhaps? :D

A few things to consider when voting for your preferred color. The white is more resistant to visible marks if you ever scratch it, however it's more prone to burn marks from soldering. The matte black will show marks if you scratch it on something, but there won't be any brown coloration marks if you set your soldering iron temps too high. PCB color shouldn't matter much anyways, because it will be covered by a plate and/or keycaps. No one types without keycaps. With that said, take your pick:

poll for PCB color

And WFD, sent you a couple of PMs regarding the plate, please have a look, I know you are busy and probably flooded with PMs, thus posting here as well.

I have mountains of PMs to go through from being on vacation for a few weeks. After getting back, sometimes I want to just relax and actually enjoy browsing the forum rather than handle PMs and logistics  ;) . I only took care of the more urgent ones.

Yeah since we're voting, I came to the realization that although I generally believe matte > shiny I think it might be a lot more of a risk to mess up the matte finish than the traditional shiny pcb during construction.

I dunno maybe someone who messed with Rev. A can correct me.
