Great project. Can’t wait for the next group buy. :)

After this GB is done, I think mechanicalkeyboards.com will start selling the PCB and possibly other components.

Really? If that happened, i am very happy :)

Well, they are selling Phantom PCBs right now, so why not GH60 components ;)

Yes, it's probably happening. They're selling phantom and ergodox pcbs already :)

Yeah, i hope that. I wanna both Phantom & GH60

They will after the GB, many of us asked them not to sell the stuff right away as it would be unfair to the GB owners, and there might be some changes on the PCB and plate before it goes into mass production.

Hey just a quick note:  I would like to add GH60 support to my custom firmware project (see here), but I will not be owning a GH60.  Any volunteers to help me work it out?  Shouldn't be too much trouble.

I will volunteer. I have a prototype I can test it with later tonight.

Gerbers are on komar's github, for the schematic. And hasu has the GH60 firmware in his TMK keyboard github repo.

I added GH60 support.  There are many layouts so I just picked the poker layout.

By the way, this is important.  Do you use Flip to flash the firmwares on the GH60?

I would assume so because it has the same amtel chip as the bpiphany filco controllers.

Also what is the current status of the GH60?
are we still waiting for the poll? :|

Actually I'm trying to determine what bootloader he has on it.  The code is written to assume that the OEM bootloader is installed.  I just want to make sure that there isn't a custom bootloader so I don't brick someone's PCB.

I've always used FLIP to flash fw to mine.

A few things to consider when voting for your preferred color. The white is more resistant to visible marks if you ever scratch it, however it's more prone to burn marks from soldering. The matte black will show marks if you scratch it on something, but there won't be any brown coloration marks if you set your soldering iron temps too high. PCB color shouldn't matter much anyways, because it will be covered by a plate and/or keycaps. No one types without keycaps. With that said, take your pick:

Just wondering when these are going to be shipping? I'm buying a PCB off someone in the GB :P
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

They are doing a Rev B prototype to double check since major revisions were made from Rev A. It would assume they would start production a few weeks after Rev B prototypes are tested and confirmed to be working.

Okay so I didn't actually do that.  When I found out WFD got a whole pile of them I decided to wait because you know he'll do a good job.  But the point is I could have.  Development cycle on his one is very strange.

I've got some questions... been thinking of these for a bit now.

  • Is there going to be a different PCB for each layout (i.e. a different layout for ANSI HHKB-style vs ANSI Poker-style)?
    When people have ordered a PCB, is all that is necessary from that point for them to screw it into their desired case, and then put on keycaps?
  • Is this something that a person with zero experience in putting keyboards together could make a successful project out of?

Thanks!

One PCB for all layouts..that's the beauty of the gh60
depending on the type of pcb you get, the work load is different. the most common type ordered was the SMD pre-soldered, in which you just need to solder in switches and put in the stabilizers, and then put it in the case and put on the keycaps (etc., etc.)

As long as you read up and get a good idea from all the information here then it shouldn't really be all too hard. do you have any soldering experience at all?

If you have zero experience, don't make your first build something you really care about.  It probably won't come out perfect.  GH-60 is actually good in that regard.  It's not like a rare Kustom :)

Okay, so when people purchased the assembly option they weren't paying someone to do all the soldering for them? I've done some soldering before but I'll be the first to admit it generally looks terrible when I do it.

I believe with the gh60 assembly option, they paid for someone like jdcarpe to assemble it for them. That means soldering in switches, applying the plate, etc. that doesn't mean there are not other people who will do assembly, outside of the GB (like myself for example).

Thanks again! So if I wanted to avoid the assembly part of things would it be good to just put an offer in the classifieds? This of course would be after the GB is over... don't have one yet. While it may be fun to do it myself, I'd rather have some degree of confidence that it gets done right :P

As far as I know, diodes will be already soldered on unless you ordered the "do it all yourself" kit.

Also, why is this listed as in production when it is still in QA stage?
IBM Model F XT + Soarer's USB Converter || Cherry G80-3000/Clears

The storage list:
IBM Model F AT || Cherry G80-3000/Blues || Compaq MX11800 (Cherry brown, bizarre layout) || IBM KB-8923 (model M-style RD) || G81-3010 Hxx || BTC 5100C || G81-3000 Sxx || Atari keyboard (?)

Sorry if this has already been answered. When the gh60s are all shipped out, are there any plans to mass produce/sell them?
