Matt3o's QFR Off Topic Project
« on: Sun, 29 September 2013, 02:24:07 »
I received the case tops few weeks ago but life tends to be pretty rough sometimes and I had little time to dedicate to the project. Sorry about that.

Anyway I started working on it and I promise you that it's nothing you have (or will) ever see in this sub-forum :) Ming asked to be original and creative and you can't ask a Matt3o to be original without consequences, so if you don't like it address your complains to Ming :P Actually I think I'm going a bit off-topic with my mod hence the project title.

I'm not ready yet to show off something but I can tell you that it involves a dremel, files, sand paper and a lot of cyanoacrylate.

I'm posting the WIP in the next few days. Stay tuned.

Edit: just to be clear, I'm out of the competition, I'm here just to wet your appetite :)

End result, scroll down for more pics

Ahahahaha! Brilliant!
unless they have some unforeseeable downside (like they're actually made of cream cheese cunningly disguised as ABS)

CM should probably use it for promotion of the QFR.

Someone said customising a QFR case top.

This is the most customised one I have ever seen!

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Add some joints into the shoulders and hands so it can hold a keycap or a CM/GH logo!

Regardless, that's hilarious! Hahaha

I managed to place a keycap anyway :)

I can't say it is finished but I'm busy organizing my 1 month trip to the US, so I don't know if I'll have more time to dedicate to the project.

Anyway, it's pretty lovely as it is now :) and it was fun to build.

would be cool if there would be a working switch behind the keycap... then put a teensy in his shoulders and somewhere a little battery... then you could officially declare it as keyboard... ehm keybot and participate in the contest :D

I wanted to put a battery to light up the eyes... not enough time though
