If someone in Europe wants to proxy all EU orders, I could probably ship any number of them to the proxy for $25.

Any volunteers to be Canada proxy and take all Canadian orders? Shipping from me to a proxy in Canada would be about $21.

I may have enough bubble mailers for you. Just let me know how many orders you get. And you could split the shipping from me among all the orders you get.

Also, if you want to cross post this to Deskthority, I don't mind at all.

If there is enough interest, I can open this up to international orders.

However, be aware that the following shipping rates would apply:
1-2: $10.00
3-4: $13.50
5+: $25

The only "tracking" available will be the customs number. Also, except for the $25 option, these would be shipped First Class mail, inside a bubble mailer, with no insurance. If your order never arrives, you can't blame me.

Ah ok. If Acanthophis indeed offers proxy services for Europe I'd be interested in 2 controllers.

Noob question: Can I replace any controller with a Teensy or is this limited to certain boards?

Just to chime in on technicalities, I have enough Teensys already...

Getting pins on the side is a good idea. As said earlier they are easy to solder in place, and hell to get out again. Also pins are ultra cheap from ebay in any quantity.

I don't know about US shipping rates, but here a "letter" of less than 20 grams is ~$2 in shipping world wide. Of course the bubble mailer itself adds to that. I use 5 gram  bubble mailers when I ship stuff. They are cheap but not for free. It should be possible to fit at least a couple of Teensys on top of that. The Teensys them selves are quite sturdy, the break away headers may not be.. Handling really is the "expensive" part here. packing everything correctly, writing addresses and so on...

Insurance can probably be handled by the proxy taking a small profit on each controller, and simply refund or replace lost/damaged mail. If he or she feels bad getting a lot of money in the end they can be donated to the forums.

I know 7bit has had some hard time with German customs. European countries differ in how likely it is to need to pay VAT and other taxes. Once in the EU shipping between countries is not a problem

Any chance of adding teensy 3.0?

Teensy 3.0 uses a different microcontroller, which to my knowledge no one has developed keyboard firmware for. The firmware for the ATmega32U4 is quite well known and adaptable. Also, I was thinking people might want these for use with Phantoms, etc., which only use the Teensy 2.0. Adding the Teensy 3.0 option might split orders, and might prevent us from reaching lower price tiers. Oh yeah, did I forget to mention that? The price tier I have in the OP is for 25 units. If we hit 100 units ordered, the price goes down another $1.50 per unit.

The savings on this is already quite good, since a Teensy 2.0 with pins direct from PJRC is $19 plus shipping. By soldering the pins yourself, we are saving $3.50 per unit. Plus, I'm shipping these about $1 cheaper than PJRC for a single unit to the US.

I will open this up to international orders at this time, but please be aware of the shipping cost. If I can ship to a proxy in your region, it would probably save individuals money.

MOAR orders people! :D

I am aware of that, I will however need a few of each. If this GB will only have 2.0, then I am forced to buy the 3.0's from pjrc anyway, and it will be cheaper for me to buy both from them at the same time. That is the reason I asked.

Oh, I didn't quite understand why you had asked before. If you would like to order them here and get the discount for the Teensy 2.0, I can order the 3.0s for you at full price at the same time, and combine shipping to you. Just fill out that information in the Comments section of the order form.

I would like to order *something* from this GB, but would anyone mind pointing me to a compatibility list for Teensy 2.0?  I've looked through the DT and GH wiki pages and could not find that much information on which keyboards it will work with.

The Phantom and the Dox are the obvious ones, but then would larger keyboards like Model M or require Teensy++?  Or still the regular Teensy? What about the SSK?  Any other notable keyboards that need some sort of a Teensy?

Thank you!

Teensy 2.0 is the standard for DIY keyboard projects.

See Soarer's XT/AT/PS2/Terminal to USB Converter with NKRO for a popular use for the Teensy 2.0 as a USB converter for older keyboards, especially XT-only models like the 83-key XT Model F.

Thank you!

Teensy 2.0 has 24 usable pins - actually, 25 at a push - enough for most DIY keyboards, many of which are TKL or smaller. It allows for 3 lock LEDs and a 13x8 matrix (104 keys), for example.

Replacing the controller on a Model M would need more pins - the matrix isn't NKRO, so it needs more rows/columns in the matrix to allow the modifiers to always work. I think it's 16x8. Teensy++ would be fine, or even Teensy 2.0 if you drop the lock LEDs, or use diodes to share some pins between scanning and LEDs.

For use as a converter obviously pins aren't an issue at all; Teensy 2.0 has plenty. With my converter it's the extra memory on the Teensy++ that might be useful, for macros/layers etc. BUT, almost everyone who's made my converter has used Teensy 2.0 (or other ATmega32U4-based board), and had plenty of space for what they want to do.

Might as well pick one up. Will be nice to mess around with if I ever get around to making a Topre-compatible ErgoDox PCB
