Speaking of polls.

I think it's time to close this one.

It got really close there at the end. "would buy" votes are down the middle between White and Bloo.

But! Bloo has 16 favorites, and Yella has 7
Beige has 11 favorites, White has 7, and Grey has 3

Bloo and Yella = 23 favorites
Beige, White, Grey = 22 favorites

Bloo has won out. It's not my favorite, but I do certainly like it. Hopefully we'll hear from SP in the coming day, so I can get prices and set up this GB.

Thanks for all the votes, I'm glad I could include you guys, instead of just deciding what I want (which wouldn't have been this) and everyone involved paying a higher price, due to less people buying, and nobody but me getting what I want.

I emailed their Sales@ email address, but I've been in correspondence with Melissa Petersen in the past. If I do not hear from them in the next 48, I'll email her directly.

Yep, I'm probably out now too. As calm said you can't please everyone though, the people have spoken and there will always be other GB's.

Hell yeah! I'm all for that Yolch action. I think it has enough support to take off as a separate project, I just don't know who would be up to run it. I don't have enough faith in my responsibility skills to keep a GB in order.

I think I have it in me to get a group buy up and running but I have no way of getting key caps to people, I'd need someone in the US to handle sorting and shipping.

Bueller and meeba, do it!

And if Bueller backs out, I might do it myself :D, but like Bueller, it doesn't make sense for me to get the items form US and then ship back as most buyers are CONUS, so I'll also need someone to handle sorting and shipping for CONUS.

Just to voice my interest, I would totally buy both this awesome blue-on-blue set from the OP and a "yolch" set, regardless of who runs the GB (though at some point this discussion should probably move out of this thread).

(It would also be awesome if one of them was fully-row3, but I bet I am in the extreme minority here.  Row3 SA is basically a better, taller DSA in my opinion).

Is it a matter of man power to get Yella made?  Can you include them as a GB option and I can handle packing/shipping those sets?

More color options means fewer orders per color, which increases costs for everyone (since setup costs are so high).

You are assuming that those who didn't get their color of choice are going to order the most popular color.

No, I'm assuming that there's some group of people who would be willing to buy either, but not willing to buy both -- by splitting these people into two groups, you end up with fewer orders in each color.

Note that I'm not saying it's impossible to run two colors, if it is feasible that would be (very) awesome, just that increased costs tend to lower the number of orders you get -- and I suspect this GB with SP profile and nonstandard colors will be fairly small to start with.

I've got some bittersweet news.

First, got the reply I wanted so badly, and the prices are manageable. Biggest price break is at 50 buyers. I'll post a writeup of all the numbers once I get all the numbers, but as an example. If we have 25 buyers, a standard TKL set, alphas and mods, is $95, where at 50 buyers, we're looking at $75. From there each price break is still significant, but that $20 break at 50 buyers is... big.

So that's my goal. 50. If we get more, outstanding.

Now, in the email she had this to say:

"The texture of the keycaps isn't consistent between rows - i.e. the 1.75 space Row 3 keycap is only available with a semi-matte top surface, while the 1.25 space Row 4 keys are only available with a matte top surface."

Now this doesn't sound like a big deal, and it doesn't sound like going with different profiles would help us at all. No matter what we do here, we're getting unmatched mod textures.
What do you think? Is this a big deal? Deal breaker for anybody?

For the texture, I am not sure how familiar you are with our SA keycaps - the 'novelty' style ones we sell on our website are the semi-matte finish and are fairly smooth while the matte finish is the same texture as our DSA style keys - does this help?

Is the space bar matte finish as well?

The 50 set price point may be hard to meet, so the above question may be moot.   :-\

It sounds like everything is available in both options, except as specifically mentioned it. It boils down to if we want the rest of the keyboard to match the 1.75 R3 keys, or match the 1.25 R4 keys.

Personally, I think it would be less weird having the R4 keys out of place, so my vote is for Semi-Matte finish.

Question. Anybody want to help me do some mockups for the alternate sets? I'd like to have some pictures for the OP of the GB so people know what they're purchasing.

Alright, guys.

We're working on mockups and hammering out the specifics here, and I need some more input from you guys.

First off, do you want deep dish or bumps on F&J?

Second, legend placement? Center, Center bottom, or top left?

This was a very rough MSpaint mockup I just did at work, don't take it to mean a damn thing. It's not the mockups, the colors aren't accurate, it's just to show legend placement options.

My vote is for bottom center. What do you think?
I'm not putting up a new poll for this one unless I get a lot of varying feedback. If you don't care, please add that comment. It helps to know if it doesn't mean too much to most people, because then I'll just make the call and proceed with making this GB happen.

1. I never tried deep dish homing keys so I would like to vote for deep dish. But if the vote goes for bumps, then I won't really care either way. I just want some indication.

2. I like either the center or top left legends. Bottom legends just look strange to me. Again, I could really go any way on this vote since I barely look at my keys when typing.

I'd be willing to help with sorting and shipping.

Sweet I'll keep that in mind mate, I was going to get some Anti-Caps Lock kits made but the demand wasn't very high so I might start thinking of some full set schemes instead.

Life can be so mean sometimes!

I just found this thread and totally fell in love with the proposed color scheme (reminds me of the graphite set that I totally adore)  :)
I even voted for my favorite keycap colors just a moment ago  and now I had to read that the decision already fell on bloo?

I would have been fine with every color except for bloo and red. And paying so much money for something that I'll probably not truly like? Sorry, I'm probably not in.

Or is there still a chance of getting two color schemes produced? ;)

Danny, Sorry brother, but Bloo is the vote. Since this isn't an established and popular colorscheme, we need to value every single investor in the GB, and putting out two options (which looks like would be Bloo and Beige) would just ensure that we have low numbers for both options.

If, however, we end up getting a sincere interest, and it looks like we could potentially get 50+ for the mods and alphas of both color schemes. Doing both is something I would definitely consider. I'd still love the beige, myself, and was very surprised when it started making a comeback.

Yeah, I totally understand the economics of choosing the option that will yield the lowest costs.

I have to take a look at the bloo colorscheme for the next few days and maybe it will grow on me, but I'd definitely be in for a beige set  ;)

Now we need to decide on a name, because Bloo On a Roll doesn't work. That wont bring in people stalking the GB subforum. Whatchoo got?

How about "the keycaps that nobody seems to want anymore"

Or maybe "Neptune - God of the Seas".

....I'm not very good with naming things.

Beige alphanumeric legends as an add on pack would be aces if we could get enough people.

Clearly, an ocean-y name is in order:

  • Argonautic
  • Submarine
  • Supermarine
  • Under the Sea
  • Nautilus
  • Lapis Lazuli
  • Blue-footed Booby(ies?)
  • Lake Placid
