no one wants to give people a chance around here :'(

Bill your going down a slippery road if you aren't careful you will soon find yourself somehow incapacitated, you're group buy and potential group buys will cause the geekhack group buy leader curse to befall you, don't push your luck trying to be a moderator too, or you will be guaranteed to disappear, as so many before you have.

Don't worry I don't actually want to be a moderator.

Also, I don't think anyone that runs group buys or makes money off geekhackers (with the exception of people that run gbs at cost) should be a moderator.

Almost everyone who runs group buys makes money here. Some people actually make a substantial amount. Only exception I've seen is bunny's gbs which look to be at cost. There may be more that I'm not aware of.

Some people actually lose money off of GBs.  I got lucky and didn't lose any off the one I ran, but I also didn't make money.

Honestly, the thanks from everyone was awesome.  I knew there was a risk of losing some $$ trying to keep things at what I paid, but have no problem with it at all.

I can say I have not, in fact, I haven't seen the inside of a 23u.  I wonder if it's any different than the tkls, though.  Keyboard science, we need you.

I lost some money on my T-shirt GB.
Same on my hoodie buy, but it was under $20 so I considered it pretty good.

The community was nice enough to chip in to cover most of my costs but a lot of incidentals (tape, packing materials, etc) added up. Not that I'm complaining. I love seeing people in the shirts and I'm so thankful people donated money to help cover my costs. That made it worth it :)

Sorry about the off topic. Please continue with the regularly scheduled programming.

Depends.

You get e-mailed for every report. Make of that what you will.

It's not a small thing, but it's not a huge time-eater.

Is there some other way I can directly give back to the community through time/effort without too much monetary commitment? I'd love to be a mod, but I feel like you folks wouldn't be interested in someone who's account isn't even old enough to post in the classifieds.

Shouldn't Moderators be required to NOT run Group Buys or have a store?  Seems to cause lots of problems.

I don't recall there being any issues with brocaps, but I think he was joking anyway.

PS: If you're referencing Ivan, anyone could do it, and I don't think the two elements combine.

SOMEONE is approving classified threads.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Apparently mods/admins don't always show up in the online user display.

Like now, for instance.

I'm still around -- just got back from a few days without internet access, but I'm usually accessible by PM for any questions.

I love reading through this chat and comparing my post counts. I was considering applying, and then realized that I haven't dropped enough '+1' replies yet  ;)

I wonder if there is any need. There are like 15 mods/admins, but only half are active now :))

Naturally, although time is scarce these days, so it's going to take a while.

Although I'll be pleased to pass 22112 again.

post count has been reset a few times over the past few months, those of us who post a lot lost thousands of posts since not all posts count

If you're seriously interested, don't let a relatively low postcount stop you from applying. I direct you to:

I've been an effective moderator before, albeit not in a forum environment. I'd apply, but I think it would be laughable for someone with my post count (and newness to the forum in general) to end up a mod :P

which seems to have worked out okay

Does that mean the OP is still relevant? Kinda figured we're just bumping this thread for fun :))

Frankly, I would be perfect for a moderator position. I share a common trait with the rest of the mods: I'm never here.
