Custom 65 Key keyboard
« on: Mon, 23 September 2013, 23:23:16 »
So I have been working on a Custom keyboard for some time now. It's not the most beautiful keyboard, and there is still much work to go, but I though I would post what I have up until now.

I started with a Chicony keyboard and stole the Monterey Blues and plate

Cut down the plate

Milled a case (still needs tons of work)

threaded inserts and standoffs

Soldering Diodes

Front

More soldering

This is about where I am now. Need to figure out what pins to connect to which wire on the Teensy 2.0 and How to modify https://github.com/tmk/tmk_keyboard software for a 15X5 matrix. after that it should all be working. Any help or comments are appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Very cool project! One question though, are you going to paint the case the same color as the plate? I think that would look awesome! Good work so far.  :thumb:

Looking good!  Very tidy job on the plate modification!

I'm planning on a similar project, using the hardwiring lowpoly approach, and I'm definitely interested in what you find out about connecting to the Teensy.   ;D

Great work man, I should really get my 65% board finished!
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

Did you sand down the plate to get to the raw metal? I didn't realize the plates were painted black. And I almost did a similar project with my Siig Minitouch but I ended up falling in love with the layout and didn't cut it out. Monterey Blues feel amazing :D

Oh and nice job on the project, keep posting updates ^__^
